3555 views Following the failure to ensure that an amount equal to 125% of the Club’s forecast monthly wage bill was deposited in a designated Club account by Wednesday 24 May, as per the order of an Independent Disciplinary Commission, Wigan Athletic Football Club has been deducted a further four points and will now start the 2023/24 season on minus eight points (-8).

Even without losing these points I think Wigan were in danger of going straight through to league two

Last time they were relegated (which was with us) they struggled the next season, just about survived, then decided to pay massive fees for players to get them back up, which happened and in 2021-22 they won the division but obviously these were players who weren't good enough for the Championship on Championship wages that they couldn't get rid of.
I seem to recall we had a target pretty much lined up who left us for them because they offered him a lot more money.
That was, of course, in that summer with Ged Roddy at the club and Nigel Adkins as manager, when we were expecting a decent summer transfer window that never came.

What I don’t get there is why would someone put in c. £2.3m in March and then put no more money in?
If they didn’t have the money then why ‘dump’ £2.3m that you will never get back?

Another takeover
The English Football League (EFL) has today approved the acquisition of 45% in the Club by Shelby Companies Limited and is now awaiting approval in accordance with the rules of Hong Kong Stock Exchange.
This exciting announcement comes after the exchange of two signed Sale and Purchase Agreements (SPA) on Sunday, 7 May.
Shelby Companies Limited is managed by American financier, Tom Wagner, who was in attendance at Blues’ final game of the 2022/23 Sky Bet Championship season against Sheffield United.

Gives us some idea of timelines for SPA to EFL approval. Although this might have been a simpler consortium compared to our 'super' one.

bexleyboy - I've merged your thread into this one as we don't need a new thread every time Wigan get worse news. It wasn't long ago that some on here were looking at Wigan's administration and takeover and subsequent spending as a role model of a club. Hopefully we don't spend beyond our means!

Ouch. Not looking good for them.
At least it should stop the small elements of our fan base that were calling for admin and a cheap takeover to 'sort us out just like Wigan did'...

EFL quickly signs it off. We don't know the process for their takeover so could have been in progress behind the scenes.
