Can’t agree more , 8months off on full pay🤔 Surely Brentford are paying him 100% of wages during this time. Although saying that, it happens in the Police etc. Wouldn't come as a surprise.

Toney has also been given a £50,000 fine, with a statement saying he has been 'suspended from all football and football-related activity with immediate effect'. talkSPORT understands that Brentford expected a ban of such nature, and they will continue to pay his wages whilst he's suspended.😎

Business has zero morals especially in a demoralised society (lack of morals).

As business decision would surely be to not lay him and therefore save money. ?? From a business perspective he’s an asset to the club. He scores goals, plays for England and has a good all round game. They want to keep him. They could cut their nose off to spite their face to appease the snowflakes but that won’t be happening. It’s a sound business decision and that’s that.

It’s a sound business decision and that’s that. No one was talking about cancelling his contract though. Hence my confusion how it is a business decision. I was on about fining him a % of his wages whilst he can’t play, due to a breach of rules/laws that was down to him. That would be a business decision and a valid one considering he’s surely in a breach of contract so liable to his club fining him.

They don’t care and why should they. He gambled and got fined plus a ban. When it is served then they still have one of their main players. They play better and win more when he’s in the lineup so financially he stays, they stay in the EPL and from a business sense it’s a no-brainer. It matters not if some are offended. That’s something that the offended have to bear. Personally l couldn’t care less that they are paying him. Why would l?

I myself am a software developer and I work for a trading platform company, and previously I have worked for investment banks, and as such, we are under certain embargos i.e. restrictions as to what we are allowed to trade.
I'm allowed to buy regular stocks and shares but must hold them for at least 3 months. Certain derivatives like options and CFDs I am not allowed to trade in at all.
I am allowed to invest in managed funds (e.g. ISAs) with no restriction on how long I hold those funds before I switch.
If I break those rules I face disciplinary action which could mean losing my job and in some cases a criminal record (the latter if done on insider information or conflict of interest).
They apply to me even though I'm only a software developer for the company.

You can only compare your analogy to someone in your industry who has been caught cheating and has not been fired. That isn’t the case here. We can only compare the professional football clubs (EPL status)response to Toney’s situation with that of other professional clubs response to their players in similar circumstances.

I am comparing that my job restricts me from certain trading activities. His restricts him from some betting activities. I think it’s a reasonable comparison. I assume you also have to seek prior permission before trading in individual securities, though you don’t say so in your original post. While originally sympathetic towards Toney, I now think he’s been a very lucky boy. If you traded in individual securities without prior approval hundreds of times and then lied about it, you’d be fired for gross misconduct. Trying to argue you had an addiction wouldn’t cut much ice and it’s hard to understand how that’s relevant in Toney’s case. What was wrong with horse racing or rugby Union or cricket or boxing etc? Are we supposed to believe his addiction was specifically to betting on football matches involving teams he knew something about? I’m inclined to believe that if Toney played for FC Halifax in the National League he’d have received a much longer ban.

Ivan Toney's 8 month ban is now over. He has returned to training and says he will be available for Brentford's 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
