Story here. By my reckoning, each League One team will appear live on Sky around twenty times next season.

I guess that means lots of games not kicking off at 3pm on a Saturday.
That’s ok for those that watch at home but for those of us that like the ritual of a 3pm Saturday game it’s going to be a bit of a disappointment.

Presumably, reading the details of the BBC report, there will be at least 3 League One games and maybe 4, shown live every weekend. That translates to probably us being on at least twice a month, maybe more if we do manage to challenge for the playoffs, so Mundell isn't far wrong with his estimate of twenty. I can see a lot of disruption for fans looming ahead. Personally, it looks like total overkill to me.

50 per cent more money for clubs. The BBC article says the following valleydobson1 , ”That is a 50% increase on the league's current deal with Sky Sports, which expires at the end of next season. Championship clubs will get an extra 46% in TV revenue, while League One and Two get 25% more.” I know those numbers don’t add up, but that’s what the article says. The question is what does such an increase mean for the club’s revenues? Last season the club received just over £2m in what’s called central income, comprised of a £1.2m Premier League solidarity payment and an EFL distribution of £0.8m. A 25% increase on that EFL distribution would be worth just £200,000 p.a. That may not be quite right because these numbers don’t reconcile (we’re missing something clearly), but it does suggest this deal is by no means a game changer. Moreover, none of this kicks in until the 2024-25 season so to the speculative observation made above by leedsaddick I can’t see this new deal having any real bearing on negotiations to sell the club. The numbers are just too small relative to other moving parts. I might be a traditionalist, but I’d also be concerned about the impact of all these televised games on season ticket sales and match day income. Just how much football do people want to watch? If I can watch Charlton circa twenty times a season in my front room, or down the local pub, do I need to buy a season ticket? My own answer to that question, all other things being equal, would be yes but it may not be everyone’s. Moreover, in my view at least, games on Sky will represent much bigger competition than ‘illegal’ Charlton TV viewing. You can’t watch Charlton TV in a pub for a start.

I’m sure I read that a lot of the extra games will be on ifollow instead of via the red button… so it’s streaming.. I don’t think this changes the 3pm kick off times but just gives fans more access to their team’s matches..

I suspect that this will be the end of CharltonTV in its current format too.

I suspect that this will be the end of CharltonTV in its current format too. I think that’s right. The Times article I linked above says the following, “The matches will be shown on Sky Sports’ channels or via a new streaming app to be set up by the satellite broadcaster that will replace streaming on club websites. It also means that the Saturday 3pm blackout will be maintained.”
