Valley Floyd Road or Notts Forest version?

Saw a tweet re the best football chants. VFR not mentioned but Forest's version is quite often.

Who started the chant first?

I don't think their version rolls off the tongue as well as VFR. Singing that at Wembley was magical. Also the home leg in the semi final was amazing under the lights.

We were singing that back in the 70's, don't know when Forest started

Sadly I think forest were first. I think we started after our return to the Valley (90's).

We did have a sing off with forest on one occasion. We had an extra verse so we won that competition!

The inferior Forest version sounds like the Charlton version if it was ordered on wish.

I thought our song was written but Glenn Tilbrook and or Chris Difford from Squeeze back in the 70’s long before Forest started singing it, in fact did they not make a recording of it at some point ?

I have this record. It was made by some fans - might have called themselves the 'Covered End Choir'.

I only remember this as a friend told me he was one of those 'singing' on it and I was immensely jealous, at the time.

I think your right with that name but I still think it was written by Difford or Tilbrook, or even both, both I believe Greenwich lads ?

We did a Hendrix on it and made it our own.

The original song is Mull of Kintyre by Paul McCartney and Wings released in 1978. The old school boys in the right side covered end came up with our version back then, and it didn't catch on properly until a few years later. Right side covered end boys song way before anybody else
