If we assume a number of our first team will still be in place next season - Maynard-Brewer, Dobbo, Fraser, Leaburn, Ness, Hector, CBT, Campbell etc… realistically, to mount a promotion challenge, how much money is needed for fees and wages?… all subjective, but I mean realistically… we don’t have a “money is no object” owner..

Good question.
In an ideal world,we would have new owners with a crack team of analysts/scouts with lists compiled ready to go,and have a bit of notable spending(Ipswich) and clever scouting(Plymouth).
If you had to put a figure to it,I'd be surprised if Ipswich have spent less than 12-15 mil to be where they are today,

No idea of the answer, but it is all a case of balancing income and new investment against player fees and wages. Also including some money for player sales. Decent players at the end of contracts tend to attract better wages, so will add to the annual "loss" to be factored in. We did it in 2011/12, but acted quickly and had few injuries. So luck is a factor imo.

Spiegel doesn't have the funds to build a side capable of a top 6 finish.

Spiegel doesn't have the funds to build a side capable of a top 6 finish. I can see us selling, our saleable assets and being left with Kirk Aneke etc.. Hope i am wrong..😁

Hope i am wrong..😁 Why do you think this is the case? I still struggle to find any reason why anyone would want to buy this club and run it exactly like TS has done and piss money up the wall - there is no logic behind this The only way to make real money is to bank roll us into the top end of the chsmpionshiip Whether Spiegel will work out how to do this we will wait and see

Besides the fact that 99% of the owners underestimate it.

A player like this helps Jes Rak-Sakyi on 15 League goals for Charlton Athletic with 1 game remaining.
The first non striker to score that many since Lee Bowyer scored 14 (In all competitions) back in 1995/1996.

The first non striker to score that many since Lee Bowyer scored 14 (In all competitions) back in 1995/1996. He has done amazingly well but I think that comparison is a little unfair. When we play 4-3-3 the wingers are more like strikers. I would compare Rak-Sakyi’s position to that played by Mo Salah, who is most certainly a striker. Still, an amazing return for a player in his first season of men’s football. He could go on to be a very special talent. In fact, I would suggest that Sess has also been a very good loan signing. Injuries have been a concern for the full back but he will be missed next season also. It’s telling, though, that the loan signings made in January were significantly less successful, just like Bonne was. Hopefully the development of Rak-Sakyi and Sess will encourage the London clubs with untold riches to lend us good players next season. We are going to need them.

Well if we take Ipswich as the example then they have spent nine to ten million pounds over two years building a team such as they have now, The club has probably lost close to twenty million pounds in that time. That is what it takes.

That is what it takes. Didn’t require that for Plymouth, went up On a budget probably less then us Just goes to show what a stable club with a good qualified recruitment team can do …. Sadly we are lacking in this area at present

As I pointed out after the 30th of June 2022 they had a four million pounds investment from the owner selling a stake in the club. We do not know yet how much more he or they put in this season.

Ipswich could be like a Sunderland and be challenging for the playoffs next season.

I am probably being a big flippant but I think Plymouth brought in very decent Championship quality players on loan…. and we brought in Bonne, Kilkenny, Penny and Kane……. enough said The most important part of any club is it’s recruitment team, when you have Gallen who bigged up Juan Castillo as the new Ashley Cole and a medical salesman in charge of recruitment what chance do you have

Totally agree, Ipswich head and shoulders the best side in league one and they could well challenge again next season in the championship play offs

For next year we have competent seniors:-
AMB or Wollacott prob one sold. Defence:- Egbo, Ness, perhaps Hector and/or Thomas re-signed.
Midfield:- Dobson (Mitchell?) others are gash. McGrandles - unsure, injured early, not seen him.
Wingers:- Campbell, CBT, (DJ possible)
Forwards:- Leaburn
Kids:- O'Connor, Mitchell, Casey, Anderson, Huke, Kone, Chin (MF)
Possibles:- Kanu, Toure, Roddy, Lafebeqerta, Bakrin, Elewere (seems to have played wing or upfront on loan) Asiimwe, Oguntayo, Ladapo, Rylah.
Love to elevate Kanu up to 1st XI but has shown nothing to justify it, even in U21s.
That is a bare aquad with slack made up by youth now leaving us with lack of talent there. Have I missed any U21s or under-performing 1st teamers? Clare perhaps but he is out of contract.
Cannot help but suspect we will re-sign dregs.
Kirk, Payne, Fraser and Lavelle still under (big) contracts.
