They were 1-0 down.
Let's hope Hamburg get promoted this year.

So do I but they ballsed it on Saturday night at home to Kaiserslautern. 1-0 up with minutes to go and got a penalty. Missed the penalty and from the counter, conceded the equaliser! Crowd was a 57,000 sell-out.
Overall though, it's been an excellent start to the season but much depends on the continued fitness of Robert Glatzel as he gets the goals.
Also, keep an eye out for Ransford Konigsdorffer. 20 year old striker/wide player signed from Dynamo Dresden. He looks like he could be the real deal...very strong (a bit like Wayne Rooney was at that age) and has already scored a few goals.
Centre-back, Mario Vuskovic (20) and Ludovic Reis (22) are two more to follow. Both young and both first choice.

Not having a good season mate. Sold to many good players, especially the striker who went to Freiburg.
I like them too. If Fortuna Dussledorf could replicate their home form to away games they would be right up their this season.
I love Bundesliga II. Darmstadt will go close this season too. Amazing how many teams relegated from the main Bundesliga nosedive out of the second division the following season two, a double relegation of you like.
Braunshweig, Ingolstadt and Greuther Furth and Armenia Bielefeld who cam down last season are now second last and bottom of the league!

Currently watching the Hamburg Derby. 0-0 with half an hour gone but the visitors are down to 10 men. St.Pauli edging it so far. Cracking atmosphere, no love lost between both sets of fans.

The run of eight straight away victories was always going to end at St Pauli. Fair play to them, they raise their game almost every time and do well against HSV.
Where did you watch the game Reams? It's been hopeless trying to watch HSV since Bundesliga swapped to Sky.

Unbelievable what has just happened to them today. Darmstadt already promoted and top of the league before start of play, lose 4-0 at Greuther Thurth.
Heidenheim who were in 2nd place were losing at Jahn Regensburg 2-1 at the 90+3 minute mark at which point Darmstadt and Hamburg look promoted. Thousands of Hamburg fans run onto the pitch at the end of their 1-0 win at Sandhausen celebrating their return to the Bundesliga....but wait!
Heidenheim who are now down to third and facing a two-legged play-off against Bundesliga 1 club Stuttgart, equalise in Regensburg to make it 2-2 but there is 10 minutes of added time and they go 3-2 up in the 90+9 minute and suddenly they are champions!! What a sickener for Darmstadt and even more so Hamburg who find themselves in a play-off yet again!!

There’s been some crazy late goals (96+mins) in the last few games or in play-offs with massive consequences. Fun for the neutral though!

That's rough.
1993-1994 Deportivo La Coruna comes to mind with missed penalty that Bebeto refused to take ... for Barca to win the league. 2000-2001 Schalke comes to mind: at home vs Unterhaching (5-3 win) and Bayern away at Hamburg. Hamburg scores in minute 90, 1-0. Schalke starts to celebrate the title. Backpass and indirect free-kick for Bayern in overtime, ... 1-1 Bayern wins the league. 2011-2012 Man City v QPR and the Aguuuuuuuuuueroooo goal of course.
Any other notable ones?

Michael Thomas for the Arse at Anfield but that was many light years ago but boy what an amazing winner which took the league trophy back to London N5.

What an absolute nightmare for tehm again tonight. I feel so sorry for their fans.
So just to reiretae that just 8 days ago they won away at Sandhausen on the last day of the season and at the final whistle, thinking they had just won promotion, thousands of their fans ran onto the pitch to celebrate with players and take selfies while pulling the shirts of their backs and all sorts. They were wild scenes.
At that precise moment in time Darmstadt were promoted as champions with Hamburg runners-up. Heidenheim who were in second place at the start of play were losing 2-1 at Jahn Regensburg but that game had 12 minutes added time in which they scored twice to become the unlikley champions with Darmstadt now down to second and Hamburg resigned to the play-offs again.
Last Friday they lost 3-0 at Stuttgart in the first leg and this evening after leading 1-0 at home, lost that 1-3 and will play in the second tier again next season having lost out on the play-offs three years running!!.
In teh Bundesliga and many other leagues around Europe they still adopt the old play-off system which was in use when we played Leeds United many moons ago. Third placed club in Bundesliga II plays third the team who finished third bottom in the Bundesliga.

Absolutely gutting for them. Another lost season, where many a time it was in their hands - similar to the last 3 seasons. I've followed them for about 5/6 years now - all gone downhill for them ever since!

Losing Mario Vuskovic at Xmas to a two-year ban put the nail in the coffin for HSV. He was the standout centre-back in Bundesliga 2 and was probably heading to the Premier League before too long. He was replaced by a bloke called Javi Montero, who quickly became unselectable (two red cards in his first games plus mistakes aplenty) so they had to use a reserve centre-back, Jonas David, who isn't quite good enough yet.
And the best option for centre-back? Stephen Ambrosius....but he was loaned out to Karlsruhe. As ever, HSV (or their players) have shot themselves in the foot. One decent centre-back partner for Sebastian Schonlau and HSV would have gone straight up. As it was, apart from one decent half, they were easily picked off by Stuttgart in the play-off.
The bench for last night's play-off was threadbare, with only really two players that could be trusted for action at that level.
I was at the home game v Kiel in March (0-0) and you could see then that they weren't quite going to make it. Plus the style of play (which is Garner-Ball x 1000) means they are very slow in the build up and rarely in the face of the opposition. Games often seem to peter out amid the same plodding style, rather than end with waves of over-lapping full-backs, crosses, shots flying in and ceaseless pressure. With a passionate 57,000 crowd behind you, you'd think that would be the norm.
The basics are there....several sell-out 57,000 crowds in the last two months and some decent players. But hard to see a promotion next season with Schalke and Hertha coming down plus others like St Pauli, who are very capable.

They would have gone up but ran out of games. I think Kaiserslautern will be strong next season too along with Dussledorf.
