Joe Allen had Williams in his pocket yesterday. I'm with you Dick, he's overrated. Every Palace fan who I spoke to about Williams that they always referred him as Jonniniesta and I can see why. Iniesta record for Barcelona was 35 goals in 442 appearances but he is regarded as one of the best midfielders Barcelona had. What I like about Jonny is that he gives 100% every time and I think he’s a really good holding midfielder. He made a huge difference in the Playoff final as he was getting stuck in and being a nuisance. I think he gets picked on by the opposition as he is being a nuisance. I don’t think you can regard one game based on his overall ability for us. Williams and Iniesta should never be muttered, or written in the same sentence to be fair mate. Williams ran into trouble more times against Stoke, than Iniesta did in his whole career.

I didn’t go on Saturday but I’d imagine everyone was poor.

Everyone is going to look bad, when there is no options either side or infront of them. We have gone back to hoofball. Hoping to win corners and nick goals. It's not fun to watch, and it is not even effective.

I thought that this was a Chuks Aneke thread but people seem more concerned to slag off Jonny Williams. I can only go to home games so don't know how he played but guess some clowns have seen all Iniesta's games!

I hope it’s not our way forward but if it became effective then I’d take it just for this season...

Could we keep to the thread title. Posters are allowed to criticise a players performance. I know it is not a popular opinion but since getting back from injury Williams has been poor. Aneke has not been picked for the U23 game. Hopefully he is on the bench.

They are so many levels apart.

Big changes needed for Forest game. Would like to see Field, McGeady (if fit), Bonne and Aneke figure at some stage. Also Sarr for Pearce.

Doesn't really say a lot about the rest of the team, but I thought Williams was our best player by far on Saturday, when it comes to having a football brain he miles ahead of everyone else, but he needs a Connor Gallagher beside him.

Seems to me Aneke is gone this summer. If we stay up I think you're probably right, but if we go down he's previously proven to be a good player at League One level. Shame, I would've liked to have seen a bit more of him this season as I think he has the raw ingredients to be a threat.

He’s been unlucky with injuries and hasn’t really had a chance to show what he can do. Can’t see him getting one now either, even if he’s fit. If we stay up I suspect Lee Bowyer will only want to retain him if Chuks is now a lot fitter than when he joined and, hence, more likely to be able to play the way we wants him to. That said, I’m not sure he’s Bowyer’s type of player. He seemed quite dismissive when asked about Aneke’s performances for the U23s.

He’s a squad filler. At this level with an increased budget he goes end of year. If we’re relegated he stays..,

He's such a big powerful lad and I'd have thought if we're chasing a goal he would offer more of a threat in the box than Hemed, personally.

Go down? I’d have thought we’d be discussing if they are good enough if (when) we stay up?! My personal opinion is that Bonne has grown and shown he can step up, much more to learn but the potential is certainly there. Aneke has struggled to hold down a place and may have got more game time if he hadn’t got injured with the rest of our team, time will tell...

If Taylor stays fit, I'd say we have more chance of top six than going down. Anyone remember the Curbs charge from nowhere?

In 1997-98 we logged 36 points from early February to season's end. A similar run now would give us only 72 points at season's end as opposed to the 88 that we finished with that season. Much as I would love to dream that the play-offs are a possibility, the head has to rule sometimes. Staying up and laying a foundation is the name of the game for teh remainder of this season

Thanks to the good start, great set of youngsters stepping up, we are still in with a good shout of doing just that. A fit squad and we will all be happy, mid table, thank you very much..!! Edit.. Looking forward to see what a fit Chuks Aneke can bring to the table.. should be soon, shouldn't it..?

Seems to me Aneke is gone this summer. I’m fine with that. It just hasn’t worked out for him due to injuries and he’s been restricted to eleven appearances.

I think letting Aneke go would be a mistake. There is a player in there. Just needs a run of games.

www.londonnewsonline.co.uk/charlton-boss-lee-bowyer-explains-absence-of-chuks-aneke/Charlton Athletic Sport Charlton boss Lee Bowyer explains absence of Chuks Aneke 24th February 2020 Richard Cawley 0 Comments BY RICHARD CAWLEY Lee Bowyer has confirmed that Chuks Aneke is fit – with the summer signing from Milton Keynes not making his matchday 18. The 26-year-old attacker, snapped up on a free transfer, has had his injury issues this campaign and last featured at the start of November. “Chuks is fit but all our attacking players – apart from Jonny Williams – are fit,” said Addicks boss Bowyer. “I’ve got Lyle [Taylor], Tomer [Hemed], Macauley [Bonne] and Andre [Green]. Then you have got your 10s like Ozzy [Erhun Oztumer] and Aiden [McGeady] – so we are strong there. “He’s been out for a while, hasn’t he? If we need him he has to be ready. That is why we have played him in U23 games, to start getting his fitness up. Chuks is one who loses his fitness very, very quickly if he isn’t playing.” Aneke has played 12 times for Charlton and scored in their 3-1 home win over Stoke at the start of August.

More favouritism from Bowyer. If he is delusional enough to think Hemed is better than Aneke then he needs somebody with a brain to have a word in his ear. I don't like the treatment of Morgan and Aneke one bit when there are other players doing absolutely nothing week in week out yet still get in the 18.

This is what I can't get my head around Paul. Hemed is absolute garbage. Aneke isn't brilliant but he is a better bet.I know which one I would prefer coming off the bench. The truth is Bowyer doesn't fancy Aneke.
