Chaps, the size of the budget is less important than the way the squad performs.
Particularly as the performance of the squad and the team are things we can all see with our own eyes (or on TV) and the budget is not really known to us, so it can be argued about endlessly with neither side really knowing if they have a better case.
As other members have mentioned in the past, as fans we are now in the best position to show maximum loyalty and support to Lee Bowyer, JJ and SG. If Charlton perform well this season we can admire and applaud their acumen in assembling a competitive squad on a generally low budget (regardless of exactly how low it may actually be). If the team does not perform well and relegation becomes a threat, we can all blame Duchatelet and his cronies for being such penny-pinching ****holes.
Anybody who actually wants to thank Roland for Lee Bowyer's good work if things go well, or blame Bowyer for Roland's meanness if they go badly - well that will just add some spice to the debates that follow.
But it's just too early to tell which way things are going to go. We have got off to a very decent start but it's early days.

There are some interesting videos on You Tube about Tomer Hemed and his special friendship with Beram Kayal .Im sure they will be very happy to finally be re united at Charlton.
Apologies for not being able to do links, but well worth watching if anyone can link it to here .

Thanks hhd, yes that was two of the ones I watched, there was a longer one around 6 minutes with a photo of Kayal in a Celtic shirt, which was more about their friendship. Thanks for putting those up.

Get up in the morning playing for Charlton Beram Kayal and Tomer Hem-Ed Go-oaaal - The Israelites" I wouldn’t sing that to loud, the term Israelite can be very offensive to certain Jewish sects. Tomer Hemed is Jewish but Beram Kayal is Muslim. And they get on, in spite of what people think Israel is like. There are musilm citizens in the country (about 18%) and they have full national rights, and presence in parliament, so not an "apartheid" state. Bowyer knows what we need for the balance of the team. It's not just in case Taylor goes in January but in case he picks up an injury or gets a suspension. If our team is at present conceding most of the possession / chances, that could be because we need a better holding attacking option and maybe he fills that role.

I said his value was 2.5 mill but guessed we would only be paying 1.5 mill but Brighton cancelled his contract and paid up the final year of his contract which .. makes him a free agent ... If only you could read make life so much easier .... “Ground Control Calling Colin”.... Duchatelet begrudged paying £200k for Bonne...we don’t pay £1.5m for free agents ? You probably think Bants is our new Hungarian full back. Hemed became a free agent because Brighton agreed a settlement amount with Hemed. Same as Williams last January but in this case it's entirely possible that some of the Dykesteel money went to Brighton to help the deal over the line? Somewhere I did see £600K mentioned but who knows what the number is? Only when the accounts are released will we be able to see the total spent on new additions. But the numbers are boring! What's important is that we now have three of our front six who have won promotion to the EPL. Let's see who is dropped once Kayal and Hemed are fit and settled ready to start games.

With Solly out for a short while (and probably unable to play every fixture anyway) plus Page unavailable indefinitely it's another defender we need now. If it's not going to be Tyrone Mears then we'll need someone else. Apologies for straying slightly off-topic. Welcome onboard Tomer Hemed It's going to be an exciting season...

This is a really good signing. It was absolutely essential that we signed someone who could both play up alongside Lyle Taylor and provide back up in the event Taylor is unavailable. Hemed fits the bill. I think we can also say now, given the budget available, that we had about as successful a window as we might have reasonably expected. Lee Bowyer will now have options to change the set up or make changes in game. Great news. I think we are seeing a change in recruitment/transfer strategy and CAFC are becoming clever exponents. Due to the continued greed of the Premiership, transfer fees and wages have rocketed, the best youth team players have been seduced by big wages and limited paying opportunities. This means (and my next comment will really irritate colleague on this site) just asking RD or any other owner to continually dig deep into their pockets, is pointless, as you cannot keep up with the overall cost. However, whether by design or default, CAFC , through the spivs and RD have invested in the academy system, that has delivered player after player. Being of a certain age, I can remember when key players were sold, it truly felt like the end of the world… yet fast track a few decades, I’m less bothered as I’m confident that there’s more in the pipeline. But what has struck me for the last few transfer windows, is that we are now we now have a great reputation of developing emerging talent that is just sitting around in the reserve teams if the Premiership. So the approach we’ve got is, develop and grow our own… develop and grow premiership bench warmers and occasionally, buy in proven talent… this feelsa more cost effective approach in an industry, where success is minimising losses

We shouldn't really sing it though until one of them scores, and preferably when both are on the pitch.
I wonder how soon that day will come...

But you said it was a done deal for 2.5 Million. Even someone like you can see that was rubbish?
