Anyone else just seen Villa midfield player Grealish being attacked by a Birmingham fan sorry dickhead .... ball goes out of play and Grealish walks away .. from Behind him this moran runs on and swings a punch around his neck onto the side of his head ... Grealish goes down and a steward and Villa players wrestle him to the ground ...
Unbelievable....... and this idiot thinks as he goes off he is a hero waving to the crowd ...... it’s disgraceful and this idiot needs to be dealt with hopefully Grealish will press charges of criminal assault ..
So-called supporters who invade the pitch to attack players or officials should be banned for life from all sports grounds.
Drink, heat of the moment, even provocation. There are no valid excuses.
PS: I'm not talking about pitch invasions for other things like celebrations etc. That is still wrong in my opinion, but where there is no malice intended such things can be dealt with case-by-case, with understanding and with the circumstances taken into account.
But attacking (or intending to attack) somebody on the pitch should be dealt with in the strongest possible terms.
"I always thought my genitals were the result of some crude practical joke" "The fire in the belly is essential, otherwise you become Michael Buble – famous and meaningless."
What a moron. 'Brainless' isn't the word. Hilarious that Grealish scored the winner. He'll now 'enjoy' his day in court. I hope he enjoys the punishment which will inevitably follow. The EFL ought to dock Birmingham City three points. Wonder what the "fan's" mates will think if this costs them a playoff place?
Unclear as to how one might define the culture or legal framework to differentiate between threats and assault on players and the ref... And celebrations.
The only exception might be an end of season gathering addressed by manager and club captain?
Given that we currently have a culture where a minority demand protests during a run at the play-offs, it's hard to imagine some unicorn infested proposition allowing for fans to enter the pitch in certain circumstances.
NB never a consideration for as we've always sat in the North upper and West upper!
I believe there was a pitch invasion of some kind at Blackpool yesterday, either when they got their very late equaliser or at full time.
I don't know the details, or the numbers involved, but I would use that as an example of an 'understandable' event given the circumstances, even though pitch invasions for any reason are against the rules.
We see fans invade the pitch at certain games at the end of most seasons; usually when a relegation threatened team survives on the last day. Still not saying that is right, but it is understandable and usually there is no intent to hurt anyone - just fans expressing uncontainable relief.
This thug who ran straight on and thumped Grealish from behind is a lowlife coward. Scum who shames the Club he claims to support and who deserves no leniency. He might think he looks like a big man to his mates now. But he's nothing more than a sad loser.

I agree with all this except the docking of points. The Birmingham steward was hot on his heels and did everything he could to try catch him. Without the foresight such an incident would occur it is near on impossible to prevent without higher barriers or a chain of stewards. There is always one idiot to spoil things for everyone else, I hope his sentence is used as a prevention for any future “hard nuts” thinking they can do the same...
Total scum and needs to be dealt with severely - people like him make getting in at grounds harder for all of us... make him report to a police station whenever Brum are playing to keep him out!
A steward was also taken out by police for kicking grealish as he celebrated with the fans after his goal. Seen a video of him raising a knee to him, again from behind

How about tieing him to the crossbar and young mr Grealish can have multiple goes at the crossbar challenge?
Now that’s what I call punishment to fit the crime 🤔
Division 1? You're having a larf! We're Charlton Athletic and we're going up!!
So he gets 14 weeks in jail. Can’t decide whether it’s long enough, particularly as most do not do the exact length of their sentence. Perhaps the ten year football ban will do the trick.
A good intention, with a bad approach often leads to bad results. Thomas Edison.

Regardless of the length of sentence, he now has a criminal record which will impact him for ever.

Agreed. And if he serves his time in a cell with three Villa fans so much the better😀

14 weeks seems unduely lenient... he'll be let out after 7 weeks..... a 12 month custodial and a tarnished reputation for life, for me would be a better outcome...
