We all know how we can have a really good late run. We just need to stay in touch with the pack. It's in our DNA long unbeaten runs, second half of the season we will strike like a coiled python with venemous fangs to spring out and strike for Championship glory ........ 🐍

We already have money at 5/2 to make the play-offs and those odds are currently 11/4 where we are seventh favourites for the top six.
As we know from last season getting there is one thing but we have to be equipped to win the semi-final and go to Wembley.
Automatic promotion not an option right now due to lack of consistency - last time we went from 61 to 71 points - simply can't see 88-90 points unless something changes.
I'd predict fifth and win the semi-final right now - promotion? Who knows but a great day out!

If this is now the plan - stay in touch with the pack and have a really good late run - I'm afraid it lacks originality as well as ambition.
Nearly every team in League One is thinking exactly the same. Even the teams currently in the bottom four are looking to string a few wins together, get themselves into mid-table and then have a really good late run.
At this stage Portsmouth, Peterborough, Sunderland and Barnsley are the teams who have set their sights higher (along with the usual two or three surprise packages who may or may not fade away as the season matures).
Are Charlton Athletic no longer a big enough Club to be seriously mixing it with Portsmouth, Peterborough, Sunderland and Barnsley? Apparently not.
Charlton's inconsistency this season does not appear to be down to problems in the dressing room. According to all accounts Lee Bowyer has morale in there close to an all-time high.
And there is no atmosphere of negativity inside the Valley on match days. Attendances are historically low but the support of those who are going has been praised more than once by the manager and players.
So why is it that our team can muster a performance to deservedly and comfortably defeat Barnsley, but fail to get results against the likes of Coventry City and Oxford United?
Some put the blame at the door of officials. Others blame boycotting fans. For me that doesn't hold water, as our away support has been impressive so far this season and has been described as among the noisiest and most zealous of any Club in this league. Yet despite that, Charlton have won only two away games from six played. Some believe it comes down to lack of experience and tactical nouse in our manager. Again I don't think that covers all the inconsistent results. What Lee Bowyer achieved last season in picking Charlton up off the floor where Karl Robinson had left us, and pushing right up into the play-off places, was rather more than 'dead cat bounce'. Yes LB will make mistakes sometimes, he is only human and he is learning his trade. But even though I am not his greatest fan, in my opinion he has shown more tactical ability than any other manager employed by Duchatelet.
For me that leaves two factors to explain Charlton's lack of consistency; injuries and lack of support from the administration.
Injuries are down mostly to luck, but can be influenced by training methods and recruitment choices. I don't know about the squad's training regime, but the squad does contain a number of players who have historically been prone to injuries.
The reason why we are giving contracts to players like that leads us back to the lack of support from the administration. In my opinion Charlton are inconsistent because the squad is not strong enough or deep enough. That is down to the lack of serious investment from the owner.
Bowyer and Gallen have worked hard and secured some good players; Lyle Taylor and Josh Cullen being the two stand-out examples. But although some of the other summer recruits show their abilities from time to time, they are not consistent - be that due to injuries or age or attitude on the pitch. Morale in the dressing room may be great, and that is an essential ingredient for a promotion campaign. But another factor is sufficient quality to turn runs of good performances into runs of good results.
We have done it once this season so far ... 6 games unbeaten including 4 straight wins ... but Chalton need three more runs of that nature in order to finish in a strong enough position to actually make it to Wembley. At this moment I don't believe there is enough quality to achieve that, and I do not believe there will be a strengthening of the squad in January.
So have a punt on us if you can find some decent odds ladies and gents, but that in itself tells a story. With the resources available to this owner (the richest in our history) Charlton should be even money for promotion from the third tier and odds on for the top 6, not seventh favourites.

We are not consistent enough to get promotion automatically. The best bet is to finish sixth and try and navigate the play offs. My money is staying firmly in my pocket. Can see us finishing between eighth and tenth.

For me the 15 game mark is an indication of where we are as a team and the 15th game is today.
So far I have been disappointed that we are not looking like an automatic promotion side as our results and performances clearly show.
Whether we can change that remains to be seen, but with the likelihood of Cullen and Ward returning to their clubs in January, as LB has said they are, leaves me with serious doubts about even making the top six.

The January window will also be important albeit that if the current owner is still in situ there will be little chance of any arrivals other than a short term loanee.

If we did get promoted, would Dushatalot produce the funds to buy the quality of players needed to stay there? Straight back down again.

Charlton priced at 9/1 for promotion means that if you bet £10 on that now, by the end of the season you’d have lost £10

I wouldn’t be parting with any of my hard earned this season . Part of me wants to get promoted, but part of me fears what would happen to us if we did . We’re far away from Championship standard .
Without a change of owner and some serious investment we don’t look like going anywhere.
