Think about: 1. Shirts and other merchandise cover the transfer fee on their own. 2. You still get a potential top scorer for the next 2-3 years, he is extremely fit. 3. He attracts other/new sponsors. 4. Juve will get a whole bunch of new 'fans' abroad (Asia, US, Africa, ...), young kids who will still identify with Juve long after Ronaldo is gone.

Don’t bite Zenga- this bloke is on the wind up If that's the case, ah well. Thanks for pointing that out. But easier to waste a few minutes of my time replying than having to remember every forum member their motives (insert smiley that no longer seems to exist).

Already on 19 Serie A goals before tonight, he has just scored a hatrick to send Juventus through to the Champions League quarter finals beating Atletico Madrid 3-0 on the night and 3-2 on aggregate.
Best player on the planet.

Best player on the planet. Couldn’t agree more. When I saw he’d scored Juve’s first tonight I thought ‘Is another hatrick on its way?’ What’s so amazing, is that it’s simply no surprise that yet again he’s delivered something exceptional at the very highest level. I didn’t think I’d ever say this, and in some ways I don’t really want to, but while I reckon Pele and Maradona are the most gifted players I’ve ever seen play, I’m inclined to think that Ronaldo is the most effective. He’s worked so hard to perfect all aspects of his game. He rarely seems to be injured. Is he the most valuable player of all time?

I remember discussing this transfer with my brother in law, who is a Real Madrid fan. We both agreed they got a huge pay out for a fairly old player. However I have to admit I reckon my view was that of a small club sort of fan. The money Juventus paid for a rather egoistic player who scores goals for fun turns out to have been a real investment. It's possibly a bit short term, but with the money sloshing around the Champions league, they can afford it. Madrid on the other hand, lost a big number of goals, and Bale, who was being overlooked in Ronaldo's shadow, hasn't stepped up, while the money Madrid recieved for the sale, has not been reinvested well.

If he had Clive Mendonca's face, I'd watch every game he played in. You all know what I mean
