He's one player I know very little about but he did go to Sunderland with high expectations and they chased him for years while he was at Le Havre. Without doubt fell victim to the management merry-go-round at the Stadium of Light but did impress during their pre-season last year.

He's been out with a knee injury for a while.
Bit of a gamble but I doubt he's wage's are too high.
Also just seen he played with Djibril Cisse last season, thought he retired a while back!

Ba, when he signs and Bauer have increased will have merely increased the squad in size not added quality to it.
I was told it wouldn't happen because lessons had been learned but Gomez being replaced by Bauer is like Batshuayi being replaced by Mbombo at Standard Liege. The policy 12 months ago at Standard was sell a good player and bring in an average replacement.
Let's hope the next four or five are creative footballers with a goal scorer or two among them.

I notice in my local paper that Tyrone Mings (only 57 appearances for Ipswich) has gone to Bournemouth for £8 million. With top up clauses it will rise to £10million plus two players coming the other way. Not like the crap deal we agreed to for Gomez.

Certainly looks that way, although we will never know the exact figures.

No idea mate but I would presume so, it's the given these days.

Sunderland fans speak highly of him from what they have seen. Just wasn't given a chance by all accounts.

Another signing will be announced tomorrow so well on course for the 5 in within ten days that I told you about last weekend. We will get the five for sure because we need a decent 18 for August. There are rumours of some big deals which haven't closed (yet?) - any sensible observer might wonder about the quality of the five additions? Give me a top striker and top midfielder plus a better left back and we are in a better place than 12 months ago.

Need two top strikers or another one and somebody who played the Yann Kermorgant role for Bournemouth last season who chipped them onto the green for Wilson and Richie to finish off!

I think that I know at least one of those big deals mate that have not yet been finalised.
Top striker and exciting midfielder definitely targeted and prepared to spend anything up to £3m on each to get them both across the line although in saying that a £3.7m offer was on the table last week but the move broke down as personal terms could not be agreed.

Indeed! I heard €3.7m. Ideally they can close the deal on Bulot. Two new strikers would be great but need just one first. If Liege are having a summer clear out, it'll be good if we get first refusal. They might not be title winners but they are probably better than those who left us.
Has it all gone quiet with RC Lens?

Bit underwhelmed by our two signings so far, but they both deserve a chance.
I'm wondering if I'll have actually seen any of the players we bring in this summer enough to have an informed opinion of them, or whether they'll all be unknown quantities.

Standard were haggling over the fee for Bulot but an agreement has been reached and he'll get announced this week. They were asking €1m a piece for him and Buyens.

I'm wondering if I'll have actually seen any of the players we bring in this summer enough to have an informed opinion of them, or whether they'll all be unknown quantities. Lets not forget that Bulot was very poor last season up to the African Cup. He then had 5/6 decent games on his return, before reverting to type.
As things stand we still need 5/6 battle hardened British Championship players who can run out v QPR on 8 August. All we have done to date is sign a German version of Richard Wood, and a bloke who has hardly played or stayed fit in ages.

Fair comments, we need another 5 all of better quality than the two brought in so far. Ba will be the player Mousssa was meant to be so we'll see something a little different in there this season but Bauer does concern me because Portuguese football is more laid back than our game because you get more time to carry the ball out out from the back which he won't have in England.
It's a poor league over there, 14 of the 18 teams would struggle to get above halfway in the Championship, some would even be in L1.

Let's not forget we have released a lot of players. All except Ben Haim made little contribution so their replacements are bound to be better. For sure we've sold Gomez and there are questions about Wiggins / Fox but I'm sure the club will work to ensure the back five is strong enough to compete.
People criticising Bulot obviously prefer Harriott on the wing! For whatever reason Peeters chose not to play Bulot much. If he does sign for us it's because he sees us as a good place to be to progress his game and earnings potential.
We finished 12th last season which was a big improvement on the season before. Luzon now talking about aiming for the play-offs and still the moaners post on message boards.
Of course we need a few more signings but do we need to slate the club at every opportunity?

Perhaps we could follow Fulham's lead and spend £11m on a striker like McCormack or pay a midfielder 75k a week like Scott Parker gets!!! What good did either of those do them?

This is the ironic bit about Trust Board members banging on about this and that on CL. Criticising the sale of Gomez, the acquisition of decent players (they haven't heard of) on free transfers and refusing to acknowledge we have both smaller losses and a better squad than 17 months ago. At the heart of the Trust message is sustainability of our club and I know from leaks, spin and messaging during the takeover and the Powell sacking that nothing that has happened has been outside of the general plan of buy low, sell high AND improve the club.
Except for the comms around the appointment of Luzon which shook everyone's confidence. This because there's only three people on the board and M.Duchatelet clearly takes all of the strategic decisions.
Some people are so busy badmouthing the club that they don't find time to look at the bigger picture. Put simply not only did we finish mid-table on the same budgetted loss as the year before but we ended the season with FIVE saleable playing assets which is five more than 12 months ago!
I'm not saying execution is perfect and I'm sure we would all like top, top players to fill the gaps, but one can see from looking at Liege that RD has a track record of acquiring players for free or around €1-2m. And they tend to be aged 19-24 so some (not all) will improve with age and experience.
Nobody is complaining about Vetokele but he's by far the most expensive player and he hasn't been firing on all cylinders since October.
So here we are in July rumoured to be going for four decent strikers on the books for the first time since who knows when?
And the coach announces that he's aiming for the play-offs . Kinda leaves all the naysayers a tad offside!

I like Bulot, but I agree that he needs to find consistency to be a real asset.
I tend to agree with Royston that we need SOME Championship experience amongst our signings this summer. If we end up signing another 5, none of whom have played in this league, then I can't help but be a bit worried for the start of next season.
I have a feeling that our main signings will be foreign, then supplemented by a couple of young loan players from the Prem.

Gudmundsson, Buyens, Bulot, Vetokele and Watt had never played in the Championship before. For me it's about whether they can play football. That's five of our front six and four of them are with us next time. I think it definitely helps for next season that they've had a year playing together in the Championship and I made that point on CL last summer. At the same time our opponents will know what they are up against.
But if more talent is sourced from Denmark, Netherlands and possibly Ligue 2 then we will be on the up.

More than happy to eat humble pie about this lad as it's looking like we have signed a bit of a player.
Going to be a fans favourite I think.

Ba reminds me of Keith Jones, does a lot of the hard graft in the middle but won't create or score a lot this season. Not sure that we need Ba, Cousins and Kashi all effectively competing for the same position. Where is the creativity?

Why do we need creativity when are strikers aren't scoring anyway?
Both need addressing urgently this week.
