We were dreadful in the second half today. No desire or composure from the boys against a team who we really should have beaten about 4-0. One of the worst teams i've ever seen at the Valley.
HOWEVER, we did the job early on and played some decent stuff in the first half. Sodje did a decent job and i thought Mooney had his best game in a while. Reid was our best player in my opinion, and a complete contrast to Sam on the other side. I've defended him quite a bit in the past, but today he was woeful and Reid really showed him up. Solly also worries me, so i hope Jacko is fit for next week.
Millwall will be the real test i think. If we play like we did in the second half, they'll turn us over easily, but if we maintain the pressure we put on Stockport in the first 15 minutes, we'll have a good chance.

One shot in the first 10 minutes
One shot in the remainding 80
Three points though and a clean sheet which I'll take, however the spark is still a long way from being there.

we were lucky they were so bad. A better team would have pulled it back to 2-2 in the second half if we'd still played like that.
I know people will say, "we won, why are you complaining", and don't get me wrong, i'm delighted with the points, but we shouldn't ignore the fact that we played pretty poorly again in my opinion.

Oh come on chaps. Just what do you want?
First half we played well, went two up and then took our foot off the gas for the (dreadful) second half. Sure, if we'd played like that in the second half against an Arsenal or a Man U then we might've lost. But we were playing Stockport in a two bob league.
We did a professional job, got the three points and kept a clean sheet. Isn't that a reason to be (reasonably) cheerful?

hmmm, a good 90-minute performance would have been nice.
Just to reiterate, i am happy with the 3pts, and i agree we did a professional job in the first 15 minutes, almost killing the game off completely.
But let's be clear, that was the worst team in the league by some distance, and we very nearly let them back in to it in the last 20 minutes. It's one thing to "take our foot off the gas", as all good teams do when they're playing average opposition, but it's another thing to surrender all commitment and desire and nearly let them have a goal.
I'm sorry to have a little moan because, like i say, some of the signs in the first half were really promising. Reid certainly looks like an excellent loan signing. It's just that the second half left me worried as to which Charlton will turn up against Millwall - the one from the first half or the one from the second. Really, we had the opportunity to come away from that game with a massive win and a huge confidence boost for the fans and players going in to next weekend. I'm not sure our second half performance has given us that. Guess we'll find out next week.

The way I see it is it's a 90 minute game and we just did not sound convincing for 80 minutes of the game today.
There are better sides to come, sides who are better than us, sides that won't gift us a two goal start so let's see what happens then but I repeat what I have been saying all season and that is we have not got a leader or a striker whom if he is not getting the service from the flanks, is capable of creating chances of his own because two shots on target against a team as bad as Stockport is woeful, three points or not..

One of those games where you just couldn't wait for the final whistle. Stockport were never going to score - they were woeful - and we just didn't look that interested in the end.
Plus it was getting colder by the second and I'd started to lose any feeling in my feet!

We did our best to try and let them score though! If we played them 10 times in a row, i'd have been disappointed if we conceded more than 3. No wonder they didn't bring many down, it must be hard work following them every week. I was freezing by the end, and also pretty bored. At least when we're behind there's something to shout about which keeps you warm! I don't think i stood up at all in the second half

In the words of one of yesterday's match reporters:
"Akpo Sodje struck for the third game in a row as Charlton moved within two points of second placed Leeds United.
But no one at The Valley was getting too excited about their automatic promotion chances after a laboured win over rock bottom Stockport.
The result was as good as settled within the first ten minutes with Paul Huntington turned Kyel Reids's cross into his own net before Sodje was left unmarked to head home Frazer Richardson's cross.
But there was little in the remaining 80 minutes to suggest that Charlton possess the ruthless streak to go straight up, or indeed, to handle the nervy prospect of the play-offs".
To me that is about as accurate as it gets.

Exeter, I agree with your original comments. We were professional and won. got a cleansheet. but didnt show ourselves very well. And didnt take a clear opportunity to get some goals in the process. But I was amazed to see people walking out in front of me with 5 mins to go shouting things like "Garbage", "Sack Parkinson" etc.... We have lost twice at home. were winning 2-0 and sit 3rd in the league 2 points off Leeds.
What do people want? We have spent zero on transfers this year....that in itself makes the job Parkinson has done pretty good. We will not win every game 5-0 so lets get behind the team and club, where we find ourselves in a good position to get promotion.

With 10 minutes left, my dad turned to me and said, "I hope people don't boo". That would have been pretty shocking to hear after a victory, even though i could understand people's frustration with the performance.
Then again, they always say that winning when you've played badly is the sign of a good side, so maybe we're saving the good performances for better opposition.
