not a good performance. Similar to last week we never got going, but the difference was that Orient were far better at passing than we were. I was very impressed by them and we got beat by simply playing the wrong tactics against them. Now i'm not going to jump down Parky's throat because there have been times when he has changed things in a game and we have come good. I do think he is excellent at managing a team after its gon eon the pitch, but i think that hopefully he realised last night that Orient played 2 out and out wingers & we didnt; leaving a huge space for them to run into.
Yesterday, the subs were unusally non effective & I agree with other posts that taking Burton off was not the ideal solution in hindsight but you could see what was going through Parky's mind when Mooney has huffed and puffed but not acheived much. Burton was ineffective, but was living off scraps.
There was one thing that i do want to call out as something that needs to change; its not accomodating Shelvey into the team at the detriment of the formation, which I believed happened last night; its not that Llloyd Sam for whatever reason has stopped taking on the full backs on the outside & continually breaks inside not making much progress. Its not even the centre halves whom are at times hugely unpredictable. No! The thing that has to change is Nicky Bailey going down too many occasions like he has been snipered. Their goal was down to him being caught slightly upfield ( no probs with that ), he had to track the runner, which he did ( no probs with that ), but then tried to bring him down ( which would probably result in a yellow card but you would take that in that instance ); Bailey failed to do so, and made out that he was hit in the face. The most embarassing thing was that he lay prone on the ground for too long, but as soon as they scored, he got up and chased the ref.
he did the same thing last week in front of the West stand and the oppo was nowhere near him when he went down. This is our captain & someone who should be more responsible towards the game, the team, the performance & the times when other players are mouthing off to the ref a claming influence. If he isnt these then maybe we have the wrong person in that role.
I have watched Charlton too long to moan about this season as this is our 2nd loss and we are still in the hunt. We need to just concentrate on our games & let the others worry about us. But players need to take responsibility for actions & Bailey should learn to be more mature.
Win on saturday and we're back on track
