CHARLTON assistant boss Tim Breacker says keeping hold of key players is one of the biggest challenges facing the club this month.
A number of first-teamers - including the likes of Jonjo Shelvey and Therry Racon - have been linked with moves away from The Valley.
The former QPR assistant knows this time of year is usually a hectic period for managers and their staff, but he is hoping he and boss Phil Parkinson won’t be receiving too many calls before the transfer window closes on January 31.
“There’s always lots happening in January - it starts at the top with the bigger teams and then there’s a drip effect,” said Breacker.
“Whether it’s looking at bringing in new players or extending loan deals, there’s lots to do.
“We’re fairly happy with where we are as a group. If we could go with what we’ve got now for the rest of the season then we’d probably take that, but we really aren’t in a position where we can afford to be losing any of our first-team players."

amusing that it says, "a number of first teamers", then mentions two players who have been out of the first team in recent weeks. It doesn't take much of a stretch to link their names with moves away.
That said, it doesn't surprise me that people are interested in Racon as i think he's always been a tidy player. I just hope he takes Parky's advice and waits until he's actually done something in English football, rather than leave to a bog-standard Championship team like Plymouth or Watford.
I wouldn't cry about losing Shelvey if the price was right. I've seen players with more potential than him leave this club for peanuts.
