But when all said and done the worrying aspect for me is that I just can't imagine Southend going to Leeds and Norwich and dominating as much as they did to today.

good sign is that we can pick up wins without playing well.
But, we're about 20% weaker without Semedo, which is a worry. I remember asking Parky at the Q & A what we'd do if he got injured, and he didn't really seem to know.

You're lucky to see the game, left home 11.30am, got the 12.17pm as usual, then taken out of service, this was followed by an announcement that some rogue had nicked all the signalling cable around Chelmsford and trains will be restricted to one per hour, arrived Stratford at 3.40pm, hoping to see the 2nd half caught a jubilee line tube to be advised that some wonlker was on the track and the service was suspended. No chance of getting to The Valley before match end, so went home arriving just now and hearind we won 1-0. 3points earned, £17.40 out of pocket and a season ticket once again not used and it's raining. It could have been a worse day, but here's hoping it never comes.

My view will upset a few but we need a few stronger characters, ones who don't think that their job is done once they hit 70%.
Basey is maturing well but he isn't Youga, Wagstaff is coming on well but he isn't the left winger that we need which is one that will terrorise the right back.
As for our right back position, we have Richardson who although being my first choice is going to struggle with fitness all season, we don't have a dependable replacement.
Up front worries me too, at the moment we have strikers who are good at this level but who knows what we'll have come next week, we can't afford having to go back to McLeod or McKenzie as a partner for Deon.
We need three players in the window and if they are loans then it has to be until the end of the season.

I didn't go but looked at the stats, which said the we had 52% of the play, more shots and more corners, yet this doesn't seem to marry up with the reports.

i'm surprised that we had more possession - they knocked it around really well for the first 15 minutes and we couldn't get the ball off them for the last 10. Fortunately they had no cutting edge up front and didn't really create much

We wearnt outplayed we seemed to get the goal and defend it which we did. We really missed Semedo defensive midfield cover in January. Hopefully with David Gold money.

The match was a game that shows we do have the character to go on and gain promotion. An ugly win is exactly what is was, but the important thing, and the difference to the last few seasons was that it was a win.
We were missing Samedo whom I always say is the heart of our team. You only know how good he is when he isnt there. But its only one game and i would take him missing vs Southend than a Norwich or a Leeds. Bailey was against his old team & he did exactly what i thought he'd do. He was too pumped up to play his natural game and he/we suffered for it. Wagstaff and Sam should really be on opposite sides. Wagstaff is still learning so should be allowed to play his normal game and use Sam as the more experienced player to play'out of position'.
I thought that back four kept Southend's players pretty well and there were not many times at all where by their attackers were breaking or Elliott had to make saves. Although there were far too many free kicks given away in the 25 yard zone, allowing them a shot at goal. But maybe that was to do with how the game was refereed?
All in all i thought that it was a good win, with Leeds slipping up and we are now over 40 points....safe from relegation???

the 40 points thing only applies in the Prem where there are fewer games, reckon we need about 10 more and we can sleep easy!!! Takes a long time to get Curbs' habits out of the system.
