DAVID Gold is watching this afternoon’s Charlton v Southend game at The Valley, prompting speculation the former Birmingham City owner may be on the brink of making a bid to takeover the Addicks.
Gold has been strongly rumoured to be interested in the League One club since selling up at St Andrews, although he has also been linked with taking over West Ham, the club he grew up supporting as a boy.
However, his attendance at today’s Southend game alongside with ex-Blues chief executive Karen Brady instead of the West Ham v Manchester United clash is bound to raise hopes Charlton’s long search for new investment could be about to pay off.

My mate at work said he was at Palar*e last week though, so I'm not counting my chickens yet. Realistically, we have better training facilities than them, and the whole set-up is owned internally; including the training ground and The Valley. And you have to assume - bearing in mind they've failed to pay their own players on more than one occasion this season AND have been in trouble for failing to pay installments on one of their signings - that our finances are in a better state than theirs . Surely the fact that we're one league below Palar*e should work in our favour, as we've survived the financial hardships with all the club's material assets intact. And getting promotion (which at the moment looks a good possibility) would only improve this situation... The Pyjama Boys are already in the Championship and are in dire financial trouble, and there's NO WAY they're gonna get promotion to the Prem in the foreseeable future, which is the only way they could ease their money worries . We've got to be the best bet. I just hope our books haven't been cooked too much...

We are not playing well today we are second best all over the pitch, hardly an inspiring afternoon for a would be buyer.

Let's hope they're more intelligent than that - it's games like this where we have to dig in and grind the result out that are all important. It wouldn't have been any good playing like world-beaters and losing 1-0, would it?
