I knew he was a teacher... And I have a feeling he was manager of a non-league team around the Croydon area before Ken Craggs picked him up. I know we weren't exactly a glamour club at the time, but that's still some sort of meteoric rise: From teacher to sunday league manager to professional manager in charge of former Footballer of the Year in 3 easy steps!
