Will fire off a few points he came up with.
He doesn't hear much from Curbs nowadays and is just a little disappointed in that...though he says Curb's isn't the greatest one for keeping in contact with anyone, just not a great communicator, so he's not that surprised.
We will unfortunately have to be 'net sellers' this summer...i.e. sell more than we buy! OUCH!! Will have a contingency plan for the January window if needs be.
The possible move of our training ground to East Malling is still a live issue....though the terms from the local council down there would have to be very attractive for us to consider it. Not on the agenda at the moment but it is a possibility in the future.
Richard said he would be interested in a takeover but only if ALL the right boxes were ticked. He would be willing to stand aside if needs be but I got the impression he'd be more than a little sad to do so....let's face it ,this is his life's work, putting aside his other business interests that is.
He thinks that it's going to be increasingly difficult to find 'sugar daddy' type of investors to take clubs on...not just for us but anywhere in football.
His total respect for Peter Varney both professionally and on a personal level knows no bounds...in fact he said he's the best guy he has ever worked with in any field.A huge loss one feels.
Hopes and half expects to see Chrissy Powell back at the club eventually, though he says there's a limit(particularly with current financial constraints) on the number of good ex players you can have around.
Matt Holland IS all the good things we thought he might be...loyal, honest and a great example of what a good pro should be...won't necessarily be first on the team sheet next season but invaluable to have around as a steadying influence both on and off the pitch.
He's given to understand that West Ham might just be up 'shyte creek somewhat' financially and that Curb's is not the happy contented soul he once was.
Occasionally has a glance at the message boards but he's just too busy to really make a concerted study of them.....so no problems there then!!
Admits to having made mistakes that have cost us dear but as I said to him, you've got it right 90% of the time so there aren't too many around that would blame him too much.
Evidently Billy Davis mucked us around quite badly and kept us hanging around for far too long for a decision.....in the end we had little alternative other than to say "on yer bike"! (My words not his).Sounded like Richard was far from impressed with him and his agents 'stringing things out' tactics.
He still believes Pards is a good manager and has the ability to do the business for us.He intimated that we should remember how chuffed most of us were when we got him and not to forget those positive feelings that we had...once again my words not his, but that's what he was trying to indicate.
As always, an Addick through and through and one who's had the bottle to put his money where his mouth is.
Stated that he and just about all the directors will never get back all they have put in over the years....and IMHO we owe them ALL a great debt....CAFC are still alive and very much kicking!
Thanks must go to Ben Hayes and Dave Roberts(Forever Charlton), for their efforts in putting this all together. A very pleasant hour or so in the board room, the sarnies were the dogs bollox too and considering they were made earlier in the day and it was early in the evening the corners hadn't curled up either!!!
UP THE ADDICKS!
