Thanks for the kind words mate. Yes it was devastating the most heartbreaking day of my life he didn't have a very good start to life being tied up all day but we took him and for the 10 months that we had him he really came on and developed a fantastic personality and lived life to the full he was a pleasure to be with absolutely brilliant animal who gave everything back. I had a spaniel before him but he died of a heart murmer at 13 and he was wonderful too. I never thought I would experience grief like it when I had to have him euthanized but at least he lived his life where as Charlie the retriever lost his far too young.' We had him cremated to scatter his ashes, it will be a year in July but he is still with us I can't seem to let go. Here he is and as you can see he was a handsome chap img152.imageshack.us/img152/4654/charlie031vb3.jpg

nice looking dog indeed. real shame, i suppose it's something that can happen to any dog owner as you have to let them have their freedom in parks, lakes etc. you just wouldn't expect it to happen to you.
are you thinking of getting another? i know he can't be replaced but once you've had one it's very strange to be without
