stupid question , why are we kicking off at 17:30 for the 1st game ?? Could be wrong but it might have something to do with Sky showing everyone's first game. Probably have to stagger the KOs.

Don't think virgin media have skysports +. It does but no instructions yet. I’m away for the two weeks and my father who is 85 has virgin media. Can someone who has virgin media could reply to this message on how to get the Wigan game up on the day/just before the match so that I can pass the instructions to my dad. Cheers

stupid question , why are we kicking off at 17:30 for the 1st game ?? Due to the 3pm blackout where no football can be broadcast at 3pm on a Saturday - save for international weekends and bank holidays, Sky move all of the fixtures on the last day of the season. Premier League to a Sunday and EFL to 12:30pm or 5:30pm kick-offs. With the new deal Sky decided that they would broadcast every club's opening fixture in the EFL so there are no 3pm kick-offs. This is, also, why there will be more 12:30pm and 5:30pm kick-offs during the season. Only a few for each club but a lot overall. Great if you love watching lots of football but a little inconvenient for traveling fans - away fans and those that live a long way from their clubs. However, the majority of the clubs in the EFL concluded that the extra money, from Sky, was worth the disruption, the potential loss of ticket revenue and atmosphere at games. They will be right, of course, for a couple of seasons, but as soon as all the money has been channelled into the pockets of the players and their greedy agents the clubs will be no better off, financially, and they will have less fans coming to games and the atmosphere will be changed, for ever. It's not like the Premier League, where all the stadia sell out every week. Convincing fans in a Northern city/town to travel down to Charlton, spending a small fortune, and having to get up at 5am, or get home after midnight, when the game is on the tele, and in the Pub, is going to be a big ask. In the short term, however, the CEOs of the EFL clubs can award themselves a handsome pay rise for 'negotiating' a nice bump in broadcast revenue. I realise that this is a very cynical post, but I suspect that there is quite a bit of truth in it.

Anderson, Edwards and Tyreece could all sneak starts for me. That’s the way I see it. Jones will play in the centre of the back three with Mitchell on the right. I think Edwards is currently ahead of Small. I’d be very surprised if Berry starts ahead of Anderson while upfront it’s going to be a squad game this season. My guess is that either Campbell or Kanu will start alongside Ahadme with Godden and perhaps Aneke expected to come on around sixty minutes.

To be fair, I'm not surprised by this. I would imagine that many EFL clubs are struggling to get fans to buy tickets, already, with the games on the TV - adding in that their could be postponements, or 'riots', is not going to convince those on the fence to commit, and turn up to the game. Remember that the Sky TV money is already guaranteed, the only variable is the attendances match by match. Having respected football people, virtually, advising fans to stay away is not going to help the clubs' cashflows.

Remember that the Sky TV money is already guaranteed, the only variable is the attendances match by match. Having respected football people, virtually, advising fans to stay away is not going to help the clubs' cashflows. I agree. It's also reached the stage now where the fear of riots is doing the damage. Protestors don't need to turn up somewhere (risking arrest etc), just make out that they will and it shuts down businesses, ties up police and often sees the other political 'side' (turning up to counter the non-existent protest) themselves becoming the 'thugs on the street'. For example, a list of immigration lawyers copied and pasted from the internet has been circulated as 'targets' for far right demonstrations tonight. I can't see any protestors turning up at the one in my home town. It's a huge serviced office building with 100-odd companies based there and just a Tesco Express and Subway on the ground floor. It's also right by the train station on a street local riot police regularly seal off for demos and football matches. Whilst there almost certainly won't be an actual protest there tonight, hundreds of shops and businesses in the centre of town have shut and sent everyone home for the whole day, whilst 200-ish counter protestors (and loads of police) are expected to waste their evening 'protecting' the building from nobody. Peter Varney is feeding into this paralysing narrative if he's scaring people off going to football this weekend. We have to carry on as much as we can and not let fear of any political elements (of any variety) shut the country down via social media rumours.
