What about the kits? We seem late on releasing the away and third kits?

What about the kits? We seem late on releasing the away and third kits? I'm sure that I read that the away kit was going to be released this week. On the basis that we no longer wear red away from home, which is why we seem to have a third kit, the away kit will have to be available by the time we play Wigan, and if it is white or blue the third kit will have to be available as well. I suspect, though, that with the prices of these shirts, and the fact that we seem to have three every season, there is little demand for the away and third shirts. Who is going to pay £165, for three shirts, every year? Back when we used to keep the kits for two seasons and had a new home one year and a new away the next year I, like many others, used to buy them all. Now that there are six every two seasons (plus the goalkeeper shirts) I only tend to buy one every three, or four, seasons. At least this season the red shirt was available before the schools broke up for the summer. One year the away shirts weren't available until, almost, October and they were retired in May.

You appear to have travelled from ST holders and new shirt every summer to paying match by match plus a shirt every few years. In contrast, we've varied the timing of our ST purchases and have just spent £100 in the shop on a shirt, hoody plus stuff. What matters is how the new look squad lands vs the competition, who else we sign, and whether the club can move forwards on ST sales, commercial revenue. We all know that the club needs to sell / loan a few players to free up slots in the squad. And we also know that success on the pitch will add to turnover. One wonders exactly how many of the thousands of former ST holders will buy tickets and merchandise if we're competitive again? It's a tricky one and time will tell if GFP / SE7 can nudge us towards our potential.

It's a tricky one and time will tell if GFP / SE7 can nudge us towards our potential. I have. I spend more money than ever at/on Charlton now, but I get less and less for it. A lot of that is down to inflation, obviously, but much of it is down to the fact that football, and everything about it, has changed to drive up revenues - from the, exact, same product. Not only do the footballers earn more now than they did ten/twenty years ago but the senior managers do too. It's still just 22 men running around a pitch kicking a ball and, realistically, it would be the same 22 men if tickets, shirts, beers and burgers were 50% cheaper and players, agents and SMT took a 50% pay cut. I would also suggest that the players, agents and most of the SMT would still be earning way more than they could earn in any other job/career/industry. Ironically I still go to, almost, as many games - I just don't pay for a whole season up front, and I don't go to midweek games in the winter. I do have the new home shirt this season, and if we are challenging I suspect that I will go to most of the games, and, probably, spend, almost, as much as a season ticket. Sadly, though, the excessive stays in the third division, the increased cost of attendance with the ease of watching games at home on the tele, along with the succession or ar$ehole owners has reduced my obsession with needing to be at every home game. All that said, I do believe that the club is being run better now than at any point in the last two decades so my optimism is rising. I'm also getting a little too old and a little too fat to wear football shirts often enough to justify buying one when we only wear it about 25 times, and retire it after nine months.
