Why are people focusing on goals from midfield today when that is not problem? If we was cohesion and good in possession and out of possession I could understand but there where so many things that didn't work.
Nathan Jones has the tools. There squad has show already that it can be a workman like team. Today the players just did not perform to the level that is needed in roles that they are suit to. There are few things that need to be solved by the manager.

He has the tools alright but let's not name names!# Regarding your other point we have all being saying the same about the lack of goals in midfield throughout the window. It's not that they didn't score today that's causing the concern by the way. It's more a case of the lack of potential for goals from that area of the pitch throughout the season. You need 15 a season from the midle of the park and I'm just not seeing it at the moment.

Midfield lack of goals has been evident for 3/4 season now.Why o why can't the scout team see this.Absolute failure on all departments. This to me should been a priority until this is addressed we will go around and around in circles .

I went over there today and ended up very disappointed. Wishing we still had Dobson and May but that can’t be changed. Right now it looks pretty much like a team of duds bar one or two. Felt a bit like Leyton Orient away last Boxing Day.

All the midfield created was confusion.

Friendly or not we are still so easy to play against. Think this is a great summary of us at the moment. So neatly put...no clean sheets again and worked over by an average L2 side. Very worrying. Some people think Aneke was our best player...he labours to do 45 minutes. Godden isn't May and Adhadme isn't....Etete was the better option.

Wouldn’t look to much into the result but it’s very much the same as last season
Can’t see where the goals will come from in this side if the two new boys up top aren’t scoring

Campbell and Kanu when they came on at least tried to make something happen. Not saying they are ready but at least they tried.

Sounds like Ahadme is not fit and already playing catch-up. Injured most of last season? Way to go Charlton !

I am not sure anybody need to get too depressed over today.
Jones on such occasions secures valuable insight into those who are and those who are not passing their “audition” for the season.
With a following wind I would expect going forward 6 or 7 player or positional adjustments. Begovic/ AN Other for Mannion, Potts I expect to sign before the Window closes. Ramsay & Small will start before Watson & Edwards, Coventry has failed his audition. I will be astonished if Jones doesn’t bring in a midfielder (it appears at this point he has had to sacrifice Bishop to create the space) while Aneke will return to the bench. We do need to remember this is part and parcel of preseason evaluation.
The timing is a disappointment and the loan market will now come into play, not necessarily to bring players in but to get players like Fraser, Ness, Edun, Taylor, maybe Maynard-Brewer, maybe Watson, and dare I say even Coventry out the door. I say that because I do think Jones would like to get Bishop back in and maybe a loan forward as another insurance for Aneke and Leaburn.

Only two minutes admittedly but that's long enough to see how lightweight we are.
Four short at least. It's all well and good adding to the squad during this window but I can't honest;y say we have improved it.

Nathan Jones another manager who cannot get an Charlton team to defend. Early in the preseason Reams had a dig at a comment about Charlton not getting a clean sheet. Well that was me I guess, and since then still no clean Sheet. The nearest we came to one was the first 60mins against Crystal Palace. This has to be concern, as conceding 65 goals last season was why we were a lower midtable side, a team that cannot achieve a 30% to 40% of clean sheets in a season will not get into a play off place. What I have seen so far preseason is we are no better in this area than last season, and yes performances in preseason do count.

I don't see what the obsession is with clean-sheets is in pre-season games.
You could keep one for 70 minutes playing the defenders you are likely to start the season with but then make wholesale changes like we did today and then all of a sudden we concede two.
You can blame the new introductions on not being up to game speed when the first goal went in and also poor defending by the two central defenders for both.
If it is the latter that's the reason why they didn't start the game in the first place. Maybe NJ doesn't rate them as highly as the two that did.
I'm not too bothered shipping goals in friendlies. Rather it was in those games than when the season starts.
I do admit though prior to today I just thought we need one or two more to add the finishing touches but it's clear we are not as good as we all thought we were and need a few more.
I don't think we have the right players in the spine of the side. We clearly need a keeper, Left-sided CB, attacking midfielder and a striker. Those we have up top leave us very vulnerable given their accumalative absence from games last season.

Because if you cannot do the basics preseason then how can you expect them to do it in the season. I watched last years preseason and was not impressed with the skill levels, at Dartford I actually thought most of are players did not look better than theirs, any way on another site I predicted 15th to 17th as our end of season position, not far wrong. Oh and I got lambasted for that. As you know reams it is players skills/performance you look for. so far to few are showing.

Conor Coventry needs to enrol in a college and get some qualifications at 24, because he won't be a professional footballer in three years time.
Contrast to kids, TC, Zach, and Kanu who have used off-season to come back as bigger, stronger athletes. CC is still a lightweight wimp.
Curious that NJ prioritises athleticism, but his CM3s are so lightweight.

Ahadme been out for two weeks but was very impressive in the games he played he will be a big assist and score the goals as well as Godden
