Big thank you to the new owners .. it’s not all about what you see on the pitch lots of money invested elsewhere getting the structure right off the pitch .. which will only improve what happens on the pitch

50 years on since our great promotion year in 1974/75. Could that be an omen?
I went to so many away games that season and I have many memories, it was great fun!!!

That was the first promotion that I witnessed…..being still at school, I didn’t do too many away games. Two stick out for me, the first was the 3-0 away win at Wrexham, goals by Paddy and two by Keith Peacock. The second was the 1-1 draw at Peterborough, with Arthur Horsefield equalising. This also proved to be a valuable lesson in life for me as well. On the way back, the Lewis Coach stopped of in Baldock, and me and some friends had a cheeky 4 pints with the late Bob Curtis. Yours truly didn’t feel the need to do a pit stop before getting back on the coach, and by the time we passed Hatfield, I was desperate but had to suffer until we got back to Greenwich, and I sprinted Usain Bolt like into the Ship & Billet to use their most excellent facilities!!!!! Happy Days

Happy Days I was at both Wrexham (wasn’t that around Christmas) and P’boro. Also Chesterfield, and loads of others. Great season that one.

Was that the year that we met Preston at home last day of the season and came from behind to secure promotion. Wonderful evening if I rememeber correctly - I was just a nipper back then.

Yup, that was the season…. I remember Bob Curtis having a penalty saved in front of the Covered End. They scored a wonder goal to go one up….. Bob Goldthorpe got the equaliser and two goals from Killer saw us home. At the time, I was lucky enough to have a season ticket in the Stand, right next to the Directors Box…. Literally I was 4 seats away from where Micheal Glikstein had his seat…. On that Bobby Charlton sat in the Directors box, was was really frustrated at the end of the game as they’d lost. Whilst I’m gorging myself with nostalgia, I remember giving Malcom Allison the old hand shandy sign and calling him a wanker when Charlton beat Palace at the Valley that season….. I wonder if this may have inspired Richard Murray to do the same with Simon Jordan a few decades later…. I guess we’ll never know

It may look good but still a lot of work needs to be done to it in ready for the Portsmouth game which I’m sure will be.
This is from someone I know who’s been helping on the pitch.

To be fair, they have taken 'strategic' photo's of the artifical grass around the outside rather than the actual pitch. Then a longshot of the pitch, which looks a little bare in places. Isn't the new pitch some hybrid real and artifical thing? Plenty of time to be ready for the new season though. I imagine it'l look great for the first game game of the season!

I was 15 and that promotion night lives on so fresh in my memory. Got all the papers next day too with some fantastic coverage. Stayed on the pitch for ages after the game.

Pitch looks great.
Does anyone know if the cladding has been painted outside on the stands? It was faded and pink. Like the fading seats.
Everything from the training ground to the state of the stadium and the players on the pitch should be on point.
