That was cruel, overall we deserved the win, played well, great workout…..one bit of Rak Saki magic got them out of jail…….plenty of positives to take out of the game…..
No Godden, Adhadme or Berry…..hope there are no injury issues there…..

Bishop could offer us something different. I wouldn't be against him signing. Still need some creativity though I think.

Still a couple of games to go before the team is announced for Wigan, I have a sneaking feeling that not all of the newbies will be included!
Docherty for one needs to step up and we haven't seen much of the attacking prowess that Edwards is supposed to bring. Still time, we shall see!
Potts looked neat and tidy for his first outing, still hoping for 2/3 better signings though before the end of the window!

Agreed, I think our midfield all looks very similar, Bishop had a decent half, he gets his head up and runs with the ball which we have lacked in our midfield… Docherty did some good work down that right hand side…..Looking forward to seeing Coventry, Berry and Docherty work together……We look very well set in the wing back position, Ramsay was very good today, tenacious in the tackle and brought the ball out well For me it is still Mitchell, Jones and one other to start as Centre backs on Aug 10…..Gillesphey had a decent 60 minutes today…..Potts is an interesting development another leader type character that Jones likes…….Still think one more CB will come in and REG and Ness will go…..I did like our defensive shape today though with very few gaps for Palace to exploit which is so different from the defending we witnessed last season…

Good work out. Slightly less coherent in the second half. Hard to know what, if anything, we can read into who got 60 minutes, who got 30 minutes and who didn’t play at all.
Mannion, Ness, Edmonds Green, Fraser, Berry, Godden, Ahadme, and of course Leaburn, were all missing. The squad is obviously way too big already, especially if Anderson, Asiimwe, Campbell and Kanu are all going to stay rather than go out on loan.
I guess we’ll have to wait and see what happens over the next several weeks. I’ve given up trying to infer what Nathan Jones might be thinking.

Blimey Al….its a bit early for players needing to step up mate…..🤣🤣🤣….I thought Docherty had a decent 30 mins myself especially coming on against the quality of the opposition ….,Interesting that he was made captain when Mitchell went off…. And playing premier league quality in that heat when we are defending for the last 30 mins is a bit harsh on Edwards not rampaging down that left wing…😀…....I think for the Wimbledon game we will see the shape of things to come regarding Jones plans for his starting line up on Aug 10…….I actually thought Taylor played himself into contention today but Coventry will start in front of him….. Bishop showed today he would be a decent recruit ……..but we need to get shot of the players that NJ clearly doesnt want

I could see Ness going out on loan. For me Gillesphey lacks the athleticism Jones likes in he's wide cent backs. That's why we brought Edwards in because he has that and doesn't surprise me that Ramsay has been playing as right side cent half because of he's athleticism. Potts could be solve this problem which could be the end of Gillesphey.

Hylton works extremely hard .. I am really not sure why NJ is giving him 45 mins…….. I like what he offers. There's no way he'll get into double figures this season, probably won't even bag half a dozen but he is a pain in the arse. He was winding up the Palace defenders today ruffling feathers throughout. He is the ideal man to draw a foul and get under opposing players skin, you could see today that played he got on Palace's nerves with his gamesmanship, it breaks up defenders concentration. Would be a good player to bring on late in the game if we are leading as he has the know how when it comes to slowing the game down and disrupting the flow.

Interesting comment from Jones that we are actively looking for a left sided centre back…..doesn’t bode will for Gillespheys chances of regular first team football, even though I thought he had a very decent 60 mins today…. Jones likes players he can rely on and who have played for him previously, so Potts fits the bill, it will all be about whether our medical team think we will get enough games out of him…

Potts could be solve this problem which could be the end of Gillesphey. I agree. I confess I’m a bit surprised but it does appear that Nathan Jones fancies Ramsey at right centre back (with either Asiimwe or Watson in front of him) and Edwards at left centre back with Small in front of him. A bit like Chris Wilder’s overlapping centre backs this does suggest that Jones wants his two wide centre backs to be part of his offensive strategy. With the width coming from wing back (Small, Asiimwe, and Watson with Edwards back up for Small) this suggests we’re not going to be signing any wide attacking players and fits with Campbell being used down the middle. With Mitchell the first choice mid centre back this leaves Jones, Ness, Z Mitchell, Gillesphey and Edmonds Green in reserve which is at least one too many, even before we think about additions. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Ness leave on a permanent deal, even if that would make the one year deal he’s just signed appear odd and/or a bit cynical. As for the rest, for me the key question is who fits best with the way Jones wants to play. I think I’d expect Z Mitchell to go out on loan.

Twi great interviews. Chuks looks up for it and more players are on the way. Up to five leaving in the next couple of weeks, some will be loans.

The difference in quality and/or speed of thought is clear, but I’d say this is encouraging. We’ve obviously got better players than we had last season, but for me the key difference between the situation now and throughout last season is that we’ve got a very clear playing system and plan. The players have been retained and recruited for that system and they understand their roles. By contrast, for a number of different reasons, we were all over the map in this respect last season. I’ve been impressed by Kanu, who looks stronger, fitter and more savvy than last season. And he suits this system/style of play which is the most important thing. I’ve always liked 3-5-2, but you obviously need the right players to play that way. I like the idea that we’ve got Mitchell anchoring in the centre (perhaps with Jones as his backup) with a natural right footer (Ramsey) and a natural left footer (Gillesphey) either side, both of whom can play. I suspect we’ll see Edwards favoured on the left so that both he and Small can start in the First XI. All good it seems to me. I’m sure we’ll aim to improve the squad if we can (on a one in one out basis as I said above), but I’m not convinced there’s a desperate need to do that which is a nice position to be in. We can be opportunistic. We should stay mindful of the fact that Jones hasn't yet completed six months and GFP/ SE7 will soon celebrate the first anniversary of their takeover. What a contrast to both last season and the three seasons under Sandgaard?! What a difference after just one summer window which isn't even complete yet? As posted elsewhere it's good to watch games AND Jones will be looking at a one in / one out approach to further improve the squad. Opportunistic or perhaps weighing up where we need to strengthen over the next six weeks.
