Going to be a tough friendly this against a team who will be rubbing shouldours with the likes of Galatasary, Fenerbache and Beziktas next season. After getting relegated two seasons ago they bounced straight back at the first attempt last season finishing runners-up to Eyüpspor. They had a goal difference of +40! There three main strikers scored 42 goals between them and they have strengthened further over the summer so it will be a severe test, friendly or not. www.goztepe.org.tr/ |

If Charlton are taking over second half coverage I suspect they might not include Nathan's 'commentary'.

Much more pressure on our defence and keeper today which is good .. Charlton staff are even around the pitch throwing the ball quickly to the other team to keep us under pressure ..

He had to go off .. Aneke on in number 10 role
They have 3/4 very large physical players

Very good test for the boys today in 30 degree heat .. defensively we handled it very well the big centre forward is a handful but Jones has been excellent .. but Z Mitchell and Gilly have been solid .
Taylor worked hard so did Bishop diff game from last week much more defensive work to do .. two very good well taken goals .

Decent half, even though the coverage quality has been awful
Jones especially ……Karoy, Zac and Kanu all impressive in the heat
If this lot are Turkish premier league then the standard can’t be that great below the big Istanbul sides……

If this lot are Turkish premier league then the standard can’t be that great below the big Istanbul sides…… They've been second division for a couple of years and have only just been promoted back to the top Turkish division for next season. I'm assuming (based on our line-up) both sides are fielding largely second string first half, then A-team second half. If the Turks haven't done their transfer business as early as us (particular given the needed post-promotion rebuild) then their second string might still be a bit piecemeal. I suspect the second half (largely both team's first 11) might be a closer match. Also we're at the end of our training camp week, whereas the Turkish side are also playing Fehevar (of George Dobson fame) on Wednesday in Slovenia, so might be nearer the start of their training camp. I guess their result v Fehevar will give us more of an idea whether we're great or Goztepe are crap. |
