That will bring us a bit of a windfall worth a couple of million at least.
I know this because it came up in one of the early discussions I had with one of the board last season.
Some say ESI cashed in but not according to what I was told. Not wishing to be ITK about this, it was a very open discussion which I have kept in my memory bank.
I recall asking if there was any truth in us still being owed the final instalment for Karlan Grant. The answer was 'Don't know about that one but we'll have a hefty return on Joe Gomez if he left Liverpool'.
Believe me that conversation took place and those were the words used.

Hopefully they value him higher than Eric Dier, they only paid EUR3.4mil for him!

This, of course, assumes that Liverpool do not want to keep him. There has been little suggestion that they don't rate him and he has played 51 games for Liverpool this season, 32 in the Premier League, and he's still only just turned 27.

I read the other day that Liverpool are very adamant they want to keep him. Depends what Slot wants to change I guess. I think it's a long shot but would love to see him move and get some return on him as they got him very cheap!

We might get something if he takes part in the Euros, and/or if we win it.
I'm sure that all sorts of random things are included in add-ons.

Please move Joe. He'll probably stay until he's 34 and leave on a free to Millwall knowing our luck!

Could Gomez be on his way, left out of yesterday's squad.

Knowing our luck he will go on deadline day without giving us a chance to add to the transfer budget….

Are we assuming that as soon as Gomez is sold CAFC instantly received a sell on fee? Chances are this won’t be an immediate payout and possibly amortized over a number of months/years depending on the payment structure Liverpool agree

Chances are this won’t be an immediate payout and possibly amortized over a number of months/years depending on the payment structure Liverpool agree As with any transfer fee it will surely be paid up front annually over the length of the contract (as per the way Liverpool will get paid). This would still be a reasonable chunk per year. For example if he sells for £30m and signs a four year contract, the sell on fee will be say £6m (25% of £24m, ie the sale fee less the £6m Liverpool paid us for him) which works out at £1.5m a year. A decent enough transfer windfall at L1 level.

On Talk Shite app they reckon that there’s interest in Joe with LFC wanting to move him on.
If this occurs within this window then I would of thought that the owners would sanction further acquisition/s even though the funds may not be immediately available particularly if we continue to play well over the next game/s

A couple of observations on this.
First, the club was very heavily criticised by the cognoscenti on CL when Gomez was sold to Liverpool, for what I think was a fee of just £3m, largely because of a failure to accept that Gomez had only signed his contract with us in the first place on the basis that it included a release clause which gave him control over any future move. It now appears that the contract Gomez signed, i.e. the one negotiated with us, not the one we negotiated with Liverpool, must also have included a series of add ons (we got something when he made his debut for England in a competitive international, for example) including a sell on arrangement.
Far from being a poor piece of contract negotiation, it now appears the deal we struck with Gomez (when he was only 17) was quite insightful and far sighted. To be clear, as I understand it anyway, the way release clauses work, such as the one Gomez wanted in his contract, is such that once the buying club has met its terms the selling club has no ability to negotiate any further value. The release clause doesn’t work as intended if this isn’t the case.
Second, if Gomez is sold by Liverpool and if we make a windfall gain as a result then that will increase our revenues and help to reduce operating losses. The owners might choose to reinvest some or all of that money back into the club, but I suspect this is more likely to manifest itself in a higher wage bill than we’d have had otherwise, rather than in a simple increase in like-for-like transfer spend. Moreover, the owners might think about the period over which they wish to spend any windfall. If we make a windfall gain of £8m, for example, the owners might choose to increase the wage bill by £2m p.a. for four seasons, for example. It would be very surprising, and arguably imprudent, to blow the money in one transfer window and it would be completely out of character.
