Bit disappointed for Leverkusen that they haven’t been able to complete what would have been a dream season, but so pleased for Ademola Lookman. What a stunning hat trick. It was obvious immediately he made his first team debut for us that he had outrageous ability, but he’s struggled to really impose himself. He has now though. Wow. Just wow.

If only he'd have chosen England football allegiance, what a role he could've played for us down the left wing on the break this summer.

Who else do we have at left wing these days? No real candidates that I can think of now Sterling has gone . Grealish and Rashford possibly. Could either Foden or Sacha play on the left ?

But you have Bowen, Eze, Gordon who can all play on the left Gordon is the only natural left winger out of those three so having two options if we go 4-3-3 wouldn't be a bad thing. That said I assume Southgate will default to his 3-5-2 and it'll be either Trippier there or he'll waste Foden because he has a left foot.

But realistically he was/is unlikely to get into the England squad. Isn't this the first season he has managed double figure goal involvement? How Grealish has got into the squad (so far) is anyones guess though.

He's a player who can play down the left, off the bench, who is more direct than Grealish.

Genuinely baffled how him being in the squad isn't talked about as much as Rashford missing is. Rashford has had a poor season, no doubt. But he's been playing in a poorly run team with a manager that often looks like his lost the players confidence. We may miss Rashfords speed / directness imo. Much more than I'd say we'd miss Grealish! I'm hoping Gordon will be a star man for us.

Karel Fraeye was the manager under whom he made his first team debut. Started at that game away at Brighton where we were 2-0 up then gave away a double-jeopardy penalty I think (i.e. combined with a red card) and lost 3-2. He then scored twice against Bolton early but they came back to 2-2 as we both got relegated. He was sold in January 2017 after which we had a terrible run. But I do wonder how much of those transfer fees were actually put back into the team given we got 2 playoffs in the next 2 seasons.

True, Grealish's role in that squad will be the last 20/30 minutes to buy fouls if we're either looking for a set piece, or protecting a small lead.

But I do wonder how much of those transfer fees were actually put back into the team given we got 2 playoffs in the next 2 seasons. Good question. In the 2016-17 season the club had an operating loss of £14.3m which followed a loss of £12.6m in the Championship relegation season. The loss in 2016-17 was offset by a £16.2m profit on player sales, £11m of which was from the sale of Lookman and the remainder a combination of fees received on players sold immediately following relegation. During that first season the club paid fees to sign Ajose, Holmes, Pearce, and Magennis with undisclosed fees for Forster-Caskey and Page in the January window (according to Wikipedia). It’s fair to say that the money from the sale of Lookman was reinvested in the club.

Bayer have a great opportunity to get last night out of their sysyem when they play second division Kaiserslautern in the DFB Pokal on Saturday. If they win they land the domestic double.
