I'd say the board are split on wether to sack him hence the noises coming from somewhere in the club. I can only hope that Scott isn't the one holding things up as he has shown a tendency to be a bit slow on the uptake. I could be way of the mark, but it could be a case of I chose him, give him some time senerio. I just dunno no more.

I agree this has signs of a split although I suspect Scott wants him out but has found he hasn’t the authority to do so

Scott has started to make what look on paper decent signings. Or are those signings completely of Appleton's choosing. Before Appleton, Scott's signings were mostly bloody awful. Maybe Scott is waiting to get a copy of Appleton's little black book before getting rid 😜
Scott MUST think he is also on thin ice after making 2 managerial appointments that haven't worked out. Wouldn't surprise me if he's giving him more time.

Could it not just have been todays game has come around too quickly to sort everything (legal wise) out?

I watched the 17 mins of the press conference. Don’t think the so called “calling out of fans” was actually as bad as many made out. In actual fact, I liked it. It’s the first bit of passion or anger we’ve seen from him.. Unfortunately I don’t think he’s got a clue how to turn this around. He still has to go.

To be honest, the hands in the pockets is not an issue for me either. If we were winning games, no one would be saying anything. Anyone who thinks Appleton acting (yes acting) like Mourinho on the touchline will transform our team is deluded really. However, he should be shouting out instructions, encouragement, etc. Doing some man management. That is more where the issue lies for me.

I don't think it's literally the fact that his hands are in his pockets that's the issue, it's the fact he's seen doing essentially nothing whilst having his hands in his pockets. There's no direction. There appears to be no passion. I haven't even seen him argue with a refereeing decision, shout instructions onto the pitch, or even celebrate a goal (which can't be often in his defense). Basically, his tactics appear to be poor, there's no guidance, and now he's lost the majority of the fans, I can't see how he turns that around.

Correct me if I am wrong Appleton is just a head coach or something like that but the the actual manager. Could we not just make Duff manager, and Keep him around as waterboy until the summer or something more along the lines of his skill set say a new stone statue by the dugouts. Probably Scott's the manager.🤣

Does anyone think winning tonight will save Appleton?
There's clearly some stuff happening behind the scenes. I'm thinking a win won't save him, but we shall see.

I think until the transfer window is closed, just for temporary ‘stability’, maybe even asking any potential new managers their thoughts on remaining targets. Unless we win every single game and a team or two have some terrible run of form we are not playing for anything other than continuing the rebuild in the summer. I just hope the confidence and drive of any new signings isn’t drained out of them by the time we get to the summer and any loans that would be worth keeping beyond this season are not put off by whatever happens between now and the next transfer window.

This is actually quite funny. It's actually 71% of the votes who would want Beale out even if they won the next 5 games. I dread to think what this poll for CAFC would be like.
If Appleton won the next 5, especially when you consider who we are playing. Would that change peoples minds? Surely it would.

If Appleton won the next five games it would give us a chance of escaping relegation.

I think you could have a mannequin in the dugout and it would have more to say than Appleton.

Unless the players were playing just the way he asked them to. So he didn't need to instruct on adjustments. But I think he's got no idea how to turn a game or a losing streak around personally.

Appleton is working his notice as far as I'm concerned. Tonight is just about waving goodbye to his adoring fans.
People can duck and dive all they like. Win, lose or draw tonight he's a goner.

Will this be his last game no matter what happens ? Something very strange going on with all this no doubt about it and its all a bit embarrassing tbh, but that's Charlton been a proper basket case of a club for years now unfortunately.

Duff would be a great coup! My worries for Appelton were first apparent when I heard how he treated Jack Payne via a podcast he featured on. He’s a glorified coach and a terrible man manager and indeed football manager. What podcast was that please? Timestamp - 29:32

But this time around I think it's warranted. We are nearly in February, and he has not won a game since November! Or to put it another way. 4 points in almost two months. They sacked Holden after a 5 game losing streak. One of those games was an EFL cup fixture. And out of the 4 league defeats. Two of those teams are currently in the top 6. (Peterborough & Oxford)
