He wasn't on my wanted list when Holden went and I don't suppose he was on many other fan's either but I think he deserves immense credit for the wat he has turned us around in a little under a month.
Wasn't afraid to make changes tonight and let's be honest they surprised us all but he really is beginning to grow on me after I initially said that I wouldn't watch any side he managed. Happy to eat as much humble pie as anyone wisheds to throw at me to be honest because under Holden, going 1-0 down we never got the reaction from the players that we are seeing under Michael Appleton.
The players are onside with him and seem to enjoy playing for him.
Long may it continue.

I’m impressed with his decision making around subs. I also like his interviews how he’s still looking at the things that didn’t quite go right (despite a 4-1 win) as well as praising the good performances. He;s going to make our squad strive to do better. Would’ve been easy to say we played really well and ignored the poor parts.
I think we would’ve really struggled against a better team tonight with the formation and positions he had some playing though.

We have an SMT who have experience at other clubs and now we have an experienced Head Coach. Many wanted other candidates but Scott and Rodwell agreed the shortlist then made the appointment.
First off 3-5-2 is in the bin and Appleton has consistenly applied 4-2-3-1
Secondly he's gone for experience especially at centre back - Hector showed his true self tonight. No more changes every game.
And finally, he's experimented with who plays alongside Dobson, May and CBT. Anybody skim reading the message boards will have read all manner of fan opinions. But it's the Head Coach who has delivered.... unbeaten.
While we're at it, we should applaud Andy Scott for shedding 75% of the matchday 18 from 12 months ago and putting this squad together in just two windows.
A tad early to celebrate perhaps but a win next Saturday should take us back into the top 10. And likely just two or three points off the top six with a game in hand!

Jury is still out for me on Appleton. He’s made a decent start but the last two away matches we have 1 half of playing really poorly and 2nd half back again.
Shrewsbury away was a disappointment considering the bad run they went on. The lost last night.
Not taking anything away from yesterday’s win but bare in mind we seem to have a good record against Exeter at home.
Just need to get a good run going.

Just being on the cautious side. We’ve not had a manager who’s completed a full season since Powell apart from Bowyer. Be interesting where we are in a few months time and if everyone has the same opinion of Appleton.

Curbs was inexperienced before managing us lol

Considering he’s inherited a squad of players none of whom are of his choice he’s done a great job in a short period of time. From what he says in his press conferences I guess he’s not someone to be messed with and doesn’t hold back in criticism of the players if they don’t perform to his standards and requirements.
Seems to me he’s the kick up the jacksie the players needed.

The jury still out for me. Why are his teams struggling to get going in thee first 45 mins if a match. Why do they struggle to keep a clean sheet. Last nights goal was embarrassing. Also not certain about the formation he plays that is if there is one and playing people out of position. But to miss quote Napoleon give me lucky managers. He so far seems to be that.

Be interesting where we are in a few months time and if everyone has the same opinion of Appleton. Sure let's see where we are at the half way mark as the January window opens. In the meantime we can all go and cheer on the lads on Saturday in the knowledge that a win is possible and that three points will ensure we climb to around 10th - just a couple of points off the top six with a game in hand. After 15 years outside the EPL, many will be cautious. But the XG is looking far better this season AND we certainly have goalthreat in the side. 12 months ago we beat Exeter at home 4-2 - check out the team sheet that day and very few remain. Point taken about beating them, so let's see how we do on Saturday. And the game after that etc. My guess is that we'll be in a significantly better place after 17 or 20 games due to the fact that the chief architect is Andy Scott with nigh on a decade in recruitment. This compared to Sandgaard and Gallen for the last two seasons.

I wasn’t at the game last night but suffered the boring draw ( well for 75 minutes anyway ) at Shrewsbury and I can only assume that MA gave instructions on being more positive and forward looking when we have the ball.

I think that was mainly due to a lack of fitness within the squad. So we are getting better but defence is shaky and maybe the reason for the slow starts is the fear of conceding early and then chasing the game.

I was underwhelmed by Appleton initially as the appointment, but I'd say his tactical nouse is showing up well, and his analysis of the side's shortcomings was spot on when he saw what a soft touch we are very quickly. The side's work-rate has dramatically increased, and we seem to be playing to our strengths now.

We have to keep in mind the two different squads both managers have had to play with. I’m not getting carried away with Micky Apple’s. Let’s see what he’s been able to do after 10-15 games.

But Jason Pearce took the same squad that Holden had at his disposal, played 4-3-3 and delivered a much needed win vs Fleetwood. Since then the team has evolved. We've lost Edun to injury but the main difference has to be the double pivot CDMs with L.Watson in for Anderson. And the choice plus subs up front. Let's see where we are at 5pm 😉

Just highlighting this again. I really thought Micky would bring in more bite to our team. Like bowyer did. Get a bit of dirtiness in our play. Such a soft touch across the board.

Yeah, serial soft touches,MA talking of playing off a base of matching the opponents intensity.... seriously doubt teams if any fear playing us,the victor was decided within 25 mins today, that's depressing and unacceptable if MA/AS believe they are challenging for ANYTHING this season.

To be fair, virtually, every article on that site is clickbait. Since Bowyer left (there were rumours that he used to speak to Richard Cawley) every article that I've read looks like it is just a rewording of something that has already been on the club site, here or Charlton Life.

The key issue in this league is being able to compete physically and win the right to play. To my mind, we are light in midfield and particularly weak in covering wide positions. Plus, our central defence is not physically dominating and is poor at set pieces.

I think he inherited a side lacking in terms of defending and making life difficult for their opponents.
He has clearly had stern words and they look far more aggressive and purposeful in the first half of tonight’s game.

Appleton, I'm warming to the guy. He has the tactical nous, and I get the feeling it is a lot tougher than his predessesor both mentally and:n his demands on players Also, bringing in his staff has been a major benefit. Let's see if the Board back him with some midfield and defensive experience signings in the window. Has a fair Stone Island wardrobe, too!

His wardrobe suggests that he has not been working for peanuts. Either that or he’s had a few decent payoffs.
