Taking into account the £300k we paid to sign him, plus the 3 year deal on £5.5k a week, that is over £1m wasted. With 15 months left on his contract, would cost £300k just to to pay him off. And he would have to give back the nice looking VW Polo he seems to be heading for in the car park..... It's more than that, has he doesn't have 15 months left, he has 28. If he is on £5,500 a week the payoff, today, would be c. £665,500, plus any employer National Insurance. We might, also, still be liable for any medical treatment he needs, in the meantime. However, there are suggestions that he is on a lot less than that. Sandgaard gave a three and a half year contract to a player that has only played an average of 16 games a season in the last five seasons - most of those have been off the bench. Of the 80 appearances he's made in the last five seasons only 19 have been starts. That's less than four games a season, and I'm not sure he has lasted the full 90 minutes in many of those. I feel, really, sorry for the chap. It must be terrible for him. However, let's be honest, if it were my son I would tell him that he signed the contract in good faith, and that he has no obligation to walk away unless the full value of the contract is paid up. The club would (and we've seen it in the past) refuse to allow him to leave (for free) if he wanted to go somewnere else, if he was under contract and worth a transfer fee. The club can't have it both ways - neither can the players. The club have to honour the contract, and pay him, in the same way that the players have to honour the contract and stay until a transfer fee is agreed. In the past players have been paid off to go and play for someone else, on less money. That is not going to happen here.

It was a desperate decision to bring him back. The circumstances surrounding his return were a disgrace.

Who ever agreed to having him back needs their head testing / sacking , a gallen master stroke ?? , 3 & 1/2 year deal ! Sandgaard can't sack himself or his son. I'll let Gallen off with this one.

It certainly was a strange decision Reams and we could have got Dion Charles in for the same money….. and there are still posters singing the praises of certain members of our current recruitment team 😂😂

His last pre-season calf strain kept him out until October. Why? I have had them, and without a plastic boot or physios and modern medical techniques, they have healed in weeks, not months.
I got one on the Woking half marathon and completed the London 26 miler 6-8 weeks later with no problems.

Now is the time for him to retire and claim on the insurance. Sad but if he hadn’t the persistent injury record he would have been a tier 2 regular or even a lower tier 1 option.

I'm as disappointed as the next man about Aneke's return for his salary but, with all due respect, I imagine that there is much more strain on a footballer's body that there would be on an amateur runner that is able to take his/her time on a marathon.

3'20' despite a hammy issue half way round. And I won the top 8s event at Reading regatta the day B4. Hardly an amateur athlete although I didn't get paid. I reckon I was fitter than most Footballers until mid 90s. 9/10 training sessions a week, only a fortnight off for holidays, on which I went running/swimming.
A calf strain is a muscle injury. Not a medic but I can't see how one can be much more serious than another. The main damage is between the ears and needs to be dealt with as such.
He said he "felt something go". Not I collapsed in agony.

Just because you recovered quickly from a calf strain doesn’t mean everyone will.

Can you recall any other players out for 4 months with similar? I can't. Malingering? Perhaps too far, but he does seem take longer to recovery than most with non-impact issues.

Feel for us and feel for Chuks as he stares premature retirement in the face.

It wouldn't be right for us to revisit them again.
