Me and the G man live in the Herefordshire hills. We have an almost panoramic view of the surrounding countryside. Today all we can see is water, it looks apocalyptic. We're cut off until Tuesday afternoon earliest, that's how long it takes for the water to flow off the Welsh mountains. We usually food shop on Mondays but our 4 x 4 wont do a metre of water. We have a few microwave dinners but that's it, but unlike the villages below us we do have a dry home, electric and plenty of logs and dog food. I'm pretty selfish by design, but the harsh reality of this has really jolted something in me. I remember my grand parents waxing lyrical about how great the second world war years were, but I never understood what they meant. I do now because the community coming together and help being offered on social media is absolutely heart warming. Free vehicle recovery, accommodation, farmers tractor shopping for the community and a Central point already set up to donate what you can. Our situation lasts 2 days, but those that have been flooded face a year of disruption, and many are elderly as so many come here to retire. What can I do to help. Well I'm a bit disenfranchised in the eyesight department, and I'm dotty and panic a lot, so not really any good at anything physical, I can't even work a can opener lol, but I wanted to do my bit, be a part of it. Well I've come up with a brilliant plan, so time to step up and be amazing Grace. I'll let you know how it went. Nature makes us look pathetic sometimes

Our lane is just high enough from surrounding rivers, very thankful...

Thank you all for your concern. Had a sandwich less bread this morning, but going to risk the farm tracks to Presteigne, have to have bread. Although I'm a meat eater, sheep floating in a river is totally shocking, third time I've seen it this year. Oh joy of joys, just been told the fan belts gone, but have been assured that driving without power steering, alternator, ABS, and water pump is doable. The jury's out on that one so wish me luck

The only chemist in the UK with a Caldron. Sorry to say we had an accident tonight and wrote the car off. Going down a 1 in 3 when an avalanche of mud washed down from behind us. Went sideways into a tree, not very fast, done a front tyre and broke the rear suspension. Five minutes earlier we'd picked up a couple who'd got stranded, half a mile and a crash wasn't what they were expecting. Police recovery say they cant find the car, so probably tipped into a field by a farmer because it was blocking the road Fully comp and have had our moneys worth plus extra animals need extra room, so off to the car sales tomorrow. Two new friends, a new car tomorrow and some more understanding of people, so thank you for that, there seems to be a lot of kindness in the world of late.

Living in dry, never flooded Dartford, it’s hard to imagine the hardship being suffered by everyone in the affected areas of the UK. Puts so much into perspective - football is secondary at times such as these. Take care. Edit: not flooded significantly since last century, apparently.

Thank you Dartford, I now embrace chaos because there is no other choice. Going to view a nice Nissan X trail tomorrow, if we get it we will beat Luton. I'll be wearing my lucky tights, they won us the final and I'm hoping the gaping hole in the left toe does not affect their cosmic match winning powers. Sorry I got grumpy about the Blackburn game
