they'd played more like that more often this season. The Valley felt like it should do today, positive atmosphere (didn't hear 1 boo) due to the team actually playing like a team.
Apart from a poor first half by McCarthy (much improved 2nd) and some very casual defending at times by Youga they really couldn't be faulted.
Shelvey looks a very good prospect, hard to believe he's just 16, Wagstaff looks a bit lightweight but showed bursts of pace - just nice to see hungry players out there.
Holland was the star for me today though, didn't stop running, was always guiding Shelvey through things,good passing,defending and what technique for that volley.
My only concern is that this may paper over some big cracks we've had. Pardew needs to learn from today's game, hopefully make a few good signings and take most of the players we had out today onto next season. Maybe the future isn't quite as bleak as we thought.
