Another way to look at it is that finishing clear top after 30 games did them no favours last season because they subsequently drew or lost most of their play-off games... So why finish top when third or even fifth gets you into the play-offs? But the fans can't be happy with results unless their champions league run is the thing that counts right now? Duchatelet doesn't sack that many coaches...Riga walked from Liege to take up the Qatar offer and was only on a short term deal with us...as far as I know Powell was the only coach sacked in the network last season... and Peeters is only on a one year deal... So perhaps Luzon is simply following a plan after they have sold so many over the summer? Or maybe he goes if league form slumps? He does sack trainers some times (he sacked a dutch one at Standard 2 seasons ago, but forgot his name), but you may be right. However, I would still prefer to start the play-offs a few points in front of the others, instead of a few behind (play offs are played with the top 6 after the normal competition, points already won are halved).

The Dutch Guy he sacked was Ron Jans, a Romanian coach Mircea Rednic took his place and he got the bullet as well.
Luzon will be gone in October.

Guy Luzon screams for several weeks to strengthen and get today with Ricardo Faty might be a new player. The transfer of the 28-year-old midfielder from the French Ajaccio is basically completed. There is a transfer fee of 500,000 euros involved.

Word is on the streets of Liege that Juventus are now heavily linked with Standard's Japanese goalkeeper Eiji Kawashima.
The Old Lady see's Kawashima as ideal backup for Buffon and given that he and Standard have not reached an agreement on a new contract, his current one expires in the summer, he may be allowed to leave for a reduced price.

M'Poku is set to treble his money and follow his mate Ezekiel to Quatar.
Standard will get £4.5m so that is the last of Standard's big name players gone all in the space of 6 weeks!

If M'Poku goes it will be close on €25 euros
The big money so far has come for:
Ezekiel to Arabi for €8M Batshuayi to Marseille €6M Vainqueur to Dinamo Moscow €6M
The only replacements they have paid cash for are:
Louis from Nancy for €1.9M Watt from Celtic for €1.5M

It will be interesting to see where the cash is re-directed

I think the sale of those players has paid for Charlton! In reality, he's spent nothing yet in real terms.

I wonder if RD is preparing to sell Standard next summer? My guess, no! Unless there's another riot...

He lost a few million when Kanu walked out too, using Belgian Law to terminate his own contract.

My guess, no! Unless there's another riot... I can't imagine Standard fans are too happy at the moment! They are definitely not happy, but they've learnt apparently : last year a lot of activity took place in these last days before the closing of the market

On his twitter page there are lots of fans who have wanted to have their picture taken with him so clearly he's a popular guy among teh Liege fans just not the manager sadly for him.
Is he what we need? I'm not sure myself as we need a more cut and thrust central midfielder who drives forward.

It appears that RD didn't fancy 30+ year old Frenchmen at The Valley but is more than happy to have them at Standard!
Les Rouges are close to an agreement with Benoit Cheyrou the 33-year-old Frenchman from Marseille.
Cheyrou has reduced his wage demands and will sign before the window closes.

They also have a one year loan deal (with option to buy) with Valencia's Vinicius Araujo since yesterday
And for the incoming transfers : as far as I know they had to pay for Milec, Trebel and Dussaut as well (undisclosed fee)

Milec must be gutted leaving Maribor for Standard, he has thrown away CL football.
