I noticed our poorly trained stewards grilling the youngsters in the Covered End at the Forest game, and bizarrely asking them to produce ID.
If this is an attempt to stop the hundreds of adult fans who want to spite Duchâtelet by getting in on cheap kid’s tickets, it’s typically misguided. Personally I have 100% sympathy for the motivations of those that do. Every penny less that Duchâtelet makes out of Charlton pushes him that bit closer to the Exit.
I think the stewards need to be careful in the way they handle this. Past experience shows that some of them are pretty thick and ignorant. Asking 17 year olds to return home or to the car for ID is guaranteed to lead to flash points.
Was it really that long ago that Charlton was known as the model fan’s club?

Millwall fans have been doing this for years I know is a 45 year old who always gets a kids ticket and is never questioned.

Given Duchâtelet has trousered the £6,000,000 Championship revenue, I’d suggest he doesn’t really need much ticket money this season.

It's rife at Charlton with the concession tickets.
There are many people that will either buy concession tickets, or only go when there is a freebie. Good luck to them, if they are wanting to go but find a way of giving as little money as possible, crack on.

The problem has only really arisen because people are bragging that they're doing this on social media. You can't expect the Club to sit back and do nothing about it. 37 adults caught on concession tickets in the Covered End for the Forest game.

Think ot goes on everywhere especially with these automated turnstyles it's so easy to get away with it.

Maybe it's just me but it's not in my DNA to try and cheat even if a system relies on a degree of trust and is open to abuse those of a mind to try their luck. If there is a price I will pay it but if I am entitled to a concession I will claim it. I see nothing clever or right in engaging in an act of criminal deception.

Firstly nobody trousers £6m when we run at a £10m loss each year.
A model fans club obviously doesn’t have model fans if they try to cheat the system.
If your entitled then fine but if you cheat then prepare to be found out.
Most people carry ID with them these days even if it’s your college card or provisional driving license etc.
Nobody would have accepted this before RD, and also won’t accept it post RD so why should it be acceptable now just because people don’t like the owner.

Let’s be honest, people aren’t doing this to take a stand against the owner, they’re doing it to cheat the system.
It’s the same people who try to fare dodge on the trains and so on. They’re not taking a principled stand against TFL, they just reckon they can get away with it.

No ticket checks in the Covered End today, presumably on the orders of the club’s CEO.

Loss of income from chancers equals more losses for the club which equates to more borrowing from the owner with interest. So these guys are actually harming the club.

If you ran your own business and people tried to deceive you by paying less than an accepted price then you would understand that they were the disrespectful ones. The pricing is clear, you pay to see a product based on your circumstance. How you can stand by people who don’t is morally wrong no matter how much you dislike the owner. Embarrassing!

Although some people like to make everything about RD..

If there is a price I will pay it but if I am entitled to a concession I will claim it. I see nothing clever or right in engaging in an act of criminal deception. It's not just deception but failing to contribute to the collective when we are running the lowest budget in the League and still losing money. The concept of cheating the club and boycotting games or catering is simply a way to attack the revenue streams of the club which in turn leads to higher losses than would otherwise be the case. What I'm trying to say is that the mindset encouraged by some that we should be against the owner and against money coming in via gates, commercial revenue and player sales is probably more corrosive than a few hundred fiddling their way in on a kids ticket. On the flip side, we go as a family meet up with friends we have sat near for a few years and at half time we had a great pint in the sunshine discussing the game and whether we can keep our best players. The emphasis being on the word "we", especially when discussing the queues for the catering due to the extra fans in the ground. FFS Bury and Bolton are going out of business because of their losses, whereas we have been pushing up the leagues for three seasons running now - why can't people just enjoy the games, a pint of coffee with friends and family and be thankful that we are following a club on the up - just absorb and enjoy the lived experience?

It isn't really a matter of degree. it's a matter of principle.
Every individual Charlton fan either supports Duchatelet by paying him money, or he/she doesn't support him by not paying him anything. The amount is irrelevant.
Getting in to see a match on a kid's ticket might make some fans feel good about themselves, but they are no different from another fan who pays full price, or one who hires a box or a hospitality package or subscribes to Valley Gold or Valley Pass. If you pay CAFC one penny, you're supporting Duchatelet.
