If you were the manager and had every player in the squad fit and available, what starting line up would you choose? From the comments read since the transfer window closed it would seem a very difficut task. I'm guessing Taylor would be the only one picked in every team, Cullen close behind. Do Williams and Oztumer start together, is Gallagher the goal scoring midfielder, Prately has surprised some, is he the required Steel, Sarr missed a couple of games but has been good in a cup and league game, where do Kayal, Field, Aneke? fit in, who gets in at the back, etc.? No correct answers and LB will probably field each lineup submitted at some stage of the season.

Amos Oshilaja Pearce Sarr Purrington Cullen Kayal Williams Oztumer Taylor Hemed You can't have two left footed central defenders together. I think it has got to be either Williams or Oztumer. I would have Oztumer in ahead of Williams, more goal threat, I would also have Gallagher in the team.

We've not seen Kayal nor Hemed and there is only one No. 10 slot between Williams, Oz and Chuk. Looks like we gave a decent 18?

Bows comments when kind of asked does he know his best team yesterday were quite telling , I got the feeling he doesn’t have a best team , Williams Pratley were rested and Sarr instead of Pearce because of the opposition...
It’s a great position for us to be in , unfortunately we all know it won’t last as there will be injuries along the way , but some of the players are making it very hard for him to leave out from what was no doubt his best XI the day after the window closed.... Leko Pratley and Gallagher being the main 3..

Personally find Leko incredibly frustrating at times. Too many step overs when the simple pass is on.
Obviously on current form it's impossible to put Kayal and Hemed in, but I've every faith that them two players in particular are very good at Championship level.

It's almost an impossible job to pick our midfield at the moment, such is the depth we appear to have there. There is a case to be made for each of them to be included.
Phillips
Oshilaja - Lockyer - Pearce - Purrington
Cullen
Gallagher - Williams
Oztumer
Taylor - Leko
It's actually really difficult. Kayal and Hemed have been left out as we haven't seen them yet. Oztumer gets in, despite only playing an hour this season, because you can tell that he's going to be a top player for us. Pratley misses out, but only just, and it's harsh. I think he'll play more away from home where his physicality and tenacity will be needed more.
Amos is better than Phillips, but the latter has done nothing wrong this season to be 'dropped'.
I'm amazed that Lockyer hasn't made some teams, he's our best defender and Sarr is a liability. The centre backs pick themselves for me at the moment.
Deji at right back ahead of Solly, but I don't think it's his best position. He was quality last night though.

Lots of natural ability, pace but NO end product. I would have Aneke ahead of Leko. More chance of a goal.

He put Lyles goal on a plate for him and was stopped from scoring after 90 seconds by an incredible save... hard to blame him for the miss in second half , looked worse in real time but on closer inspection there was 4 defenders and a GK in front of him...

When I said no end product, what I should have said was goals. He has no goals in senior Football.

So much improvement to come too as they all settle and improve. Separate note Dick, did you see the U23/U18 games? Any standouts and where was Aoucharia?

I’m not particularly bothered by what he’s done before he played in the Red n White , so for me although he’s yet to score in 3 games he’s come very close , set up goals , terrorised defences and not done a bad job of helping out the fullback , that’ll do for me , should he have 0 goals after 13 games for us and not half a dozen assists then I might agree with your point....

Aoucharia has had an operation on his ACL and will be out for a long time. I missed seeing the U23 game. The trouble with the U18s is that they don't issue teamsheets and I don't recognise anybody.

Might revisit this in a month or two to see how much things change with more sample data from all players.

Might revisit this in a month or two to see how much things change with more sample data from all players. A good time to look at the squad will be after the international break when Kayal and Hemed will have played some minutes and we have played a variety of sides. Could start a new discussion about not just who to pick in October but how to play as we come against the top sides such as Leeds etc.

What are the thoughts now? LB obviously not afraid to change for each opponent but what is the current preferred line-up? From comments over last 2 months the locks look like Phillips, Pearce, Lockyer, Cullen, Gallagher, Taylor. Near certainty Williams. Very important Prately, Leko (shortage of other options). Interesting to see the variations.
