How’s the positive thread coming along HH? Gotta love this! 🤣 We have passionate fans who love the club through good times and bad... 😁 That’s very true, and fans will stick up for their players and club against negative comments and criticism, whether that comes from rival fans or our own. It just shows the passion , love and loyalty. Nothing wrong with that , we are all fans with opinions.

How’s the positive thread coming along HH? Gotta love this! 🤣 We have passionate fans who love the club through good times and bad... 😁 Completely agree, and that passion can also engender a degree of disagreement that occasionally descends into arguments. At the end of the day we all want Charlton Athletic to be as successful as possible. However, the disappointment and criticism that is sometimes expressed here should not, I would suggest, always be construed as “doom and gloom” an expression that irritates me. If you’re as long in the tooth as I am you may have experienced a fair deal of critical comment throughout your working life. But so long as that criticism is constructive criticism it can go a long way to helping the person criticised improve their life and career for the good of everyone involved. Thus the passionate supporter, and I would venture to suggest that everyone on this forum can be described in that way, should be able to express an alternative opinion without risking the opprobrium that sometimes comes their way. But of course that is the very nature of an open discussion forum, agree, disagree, agree to disagree, that’s life. As the thread is about reasons to be positive for me it’s looking forward to a new season in a higher league that is of much better quality than, as supporters, we’ve experienced for quite a while. It’s also about welcoming new players to the club, players who want to wear the red shirt of CAFC with pride, and finally hoping that the team does as well as it possibly can. The anger that we must all have, and this for me is essentially the instigator of so much negative comment, is that the manager is working with his hand, slightly, tied behind his back due to a low budget given him by the owner we’d all hoped would by now be a bad memory in the history of the club, and that the players recruited may not be up to scratch. I’m in no position to make a judgement yet about their combined qualities, but what I would say is that Bowyer is content (publicly) so that’s good enough for me. I understand all the comments from the likes of Jeddez etc with whom I have no grudge, but I also understand completely where reams is coming from, his experience of the game via his family connections with the club and Cardiff City must mean he has a good idea what he’s talking about. At the end of the season some of us will be proved right and some wrong, and I’m sure that we are all man/woman enough to admit it come next May. Long live the memory of Wembley 2019 - onwards an upwards with hope in our hearts👍🏻

Let’s be honest here , nobody knows at this stage what will happen for sure, it all just speculation and opinions .
We will have a bit more idea when the final squad is assembled, but until we have played a decent number of games nobody can be certain. That’s the exciting part of it for me, I’m not over confident or over pessimistic.
There are no expectations on my part, and I’m just happy to be back in the Championship. How it will pan out , we will all have to wait and see.

I CBA to even reply after this when the forum owner has now called me an apologist. The same bloke who cooed over Katrien when he arranged a meeting with the senior management team. We were a positive forum then, now it’s just about how shit we are and our signings despite promotion. Enjoy ya pessimism guys 👋

After our successful 18/19 season which ended with one of the most dramatic finishes in the history of Wembley (imo) I'd like to carry on that euphoria of Bauers 94th minute winner onto this coming season for as long as possible, we've been through so much shit in the last 5yrs so is this really too much to ask? Everyone knows that our budget is shit like it was last season but against the odds and contrary to what some were posting on this forum we made it back to the championship. In Bowyer we have our best manager imo since Curbs and he has the same team ethic and is trying to build the team exactly the same way, so this thread has been created to celebrate the the upcoming season, we'll no doubt have many downs but hopefully more ups after all this is Charlton Athletic and we've never done things the easy way and tbh I wouldn't have it any other way because we're a proper football club. Good luck with that. Forget Wembley though eh, we won and are now in the Championship and so many fans know deep down that the incoming players won't be good enough. The squad could maybe go one better than last season and go up from L1 automatically if we were still in it but that's it, it's no better than that. No harm in wanting to carry on reveling from the play-off final but sooner or later reality needs to set in and if it doesn't you are just kidding yourself. It's a paradox, Paul. On the one hand you're right to say "forget Wembley, move on". But on the other we might stop to recognise the uncertainties of last season, the different journeys fans took and the sheer joy when Bauer netted the winner five seconds from full time. You and I clashed on occasion because I went against my fan's lens on CAFC and looked at the bigger picture, stating it was all about making the play-offs, as opposed to winning promotion. There are subtle differences in expectations and philosophy but it has to be said that we all reacted to both the Page injury and the failure to replace Grant. Unlike previous management, these were only temporary setbacks... and not nine game runs without a win. As for the next six months (forget next April!) let us see who is signed and how they play. RD is paying for the Valley and dirt cheap season tickets behind the goal, but he he won't pay multimillion contracts for players unless they gave a resale value. It is what it is. Many think it's too high risk, but if we make it to Christmas in one piece there's an upside - as posted before / elsewhere, things can be remediated in the January window. No more needs be said - we await the loans and the first XI at our first home game which happens to be after the window shuts. Might I suggest that we meet as a group after 5-10 games to discuss our club, the Championship and the current strategy. End of the day we can keep arguing about individual signings or whether the glass is half full / half empty... but there is a bigger picture which cannot be explored via text / social media... The thrill of the last minute penalty which saw some fans banned, or Bauer in the 94th minute is all part of a theatre full of uncertainty. Let's face it:we have no entitlement to somebody throwing £100M over four years to take us to the Premier League, and is there a queue?!

Maybe some fans can just accept the situation that we are in at the moment , and are relieved to see any new signings . Doesn’t mean they are over the moon about it , and don’t understand anything.
There’s no harm in trying to be hopeful and optimistic. What will being miserable about it change ? Maybe we shouldn’t buy a season ticker or even bother going to the games , as every thing is so hopeless .

Don’t give up yet Dick, we still have a week more to get some players in.
If for whatever reason it doesn’t happen, even my optimistic will be tested.
