All 76,000 yesterday...
Our 38,000 were fantastic and made those hideous images of the snarling, baying, wanker-signalling mob in the Valley car park seem like a bad dream.
And the Sunderland fans were both stoic and heroic. On a ridiculously over-crowded tube train there, a Sunderland fan got up and offered my seven year old grandson his seat. Then the Sunderland bloke sitting next to him- who was almost as old as I am - got up and offered me his seat so I could sit next to grandson.
Same thing happened on the way back when Sunderland fans not only offered us their seats but also told us we were the better team and deserved to win and wished us all the best in the Championship. Many thanks to an absolutely top bunch of northern gentlemen and women. Every one of them.

Also thought Wembley does a great job at welcoming fans from both clubs with the signage, music, friendly stewards etc.

Yes, I hold fond memories after 1998, they are a great club with great supporters, I hope they win league 1 next season.

I saw that lad too. Absolutely heartbreaking, but the reaction from our fans was first class. Only witnessed respect between both sets of fans. Really hope they get back on their feet soon

I like Sunderland a lot since the 1998 playoff final as they were a decent crowd and a friendly bunch as well. It was no different today and as much as I was totally ecstatic we won I felt sorry for them.

I did too, feel sorry for them, any other team I probably wouldn't of cared, But they are nice people from the north east, 1998 we danced together and made the best playoff final in history. Mendonca,Quinn,Phillips old skool, never see players like that again.

Most fans were fine. I was in block 552 next to the Sunderland fans. Most were fine. A couple of blokes old enough to know better were giving the Sunderland fans hand gestures for much of the game. They might have found cheering the team more fun but people like that don't seem to...
