Surely we won't be making any signings or have any interest until the takeover goes through (if it does)? Who would have the interest, who would offer the money and who would do the following media stuff?!

Sonny Bradley from Plymouth to Luton apparently. Good centre back. We need to get this takeover completed tomorrow or Roland has to move in the market,

Don't expect us to go spending anymore than what we normally do on players.
This club of ours is fucked from the inside out and the Aussies and co see it as a business venture (developing young Aussie players) more than they see building up a promotion challenging squad to take us back to the Championship.
They will get away with it by making popular decisions to get the fans onside.

What popular decisions?,don't say Bowyer for example.Also I heard these Aussies have enough money to get us to the premiership in years to come.

Sadly I doubt that what you hope for will happen.

Even the rumours seem to be pretty thin on the ground right now. These are the teams in League One who have not yet signed any new players;
AFC Wimbledon Barnsley Burton Albion Charlton Athletic Wycombe Wanderers
Of these five teams, three of them were either promoted or relegated at the end of last season. Three other teams have made only one new signing so far;
Oxford United Plymouth Argyle Southend United
Peterborough United lead the way at present for new signings with 6 already completed.

But more important not one player who makes you stand up and say bugger we missed out there !!!! Perhaps we are looking higher up for our players or players that are still connected to clubs .. who are away at present ?? Sure Steve Gallen is busy working through the list of players he has ..

Hopefully this consortium if/when it takes over proves to be a relevation but agree with Reams doesn't read fantastic. If they can access good younsters from here, place to start is Dan Arzani. 19 year old made impact on A-league season just finished. In Aussie World cup squad, attacker who loves to take on defenders with ball at feet. Probably see off the bench in World Cup.

A fair point bexleyboy I agree nobody has really made a stand-out signing yet. And signing a large number of players early in the transfer window is no guarantee of success. Bury went transfer-potty last summer I seem to recall, and it backfired horribly on them. I hope you are right when you say there is still transfer work going on behind the scenes at the Valley as it would during any other summer. The progress we made last season is worth building on - it would be a crime if events and circumstances led to a reversal into decline again.

At least wait a few hours.

However, we do have a superb academy and a half decent first team squad which could be converted into a promotion challenger. We might dispute the number of players required but the squad list thread put together by @lardiman shows us that we have a decent base to build upon. Having said that, if new owners only want to develop foreign talent and allow the current squad to run out of contract next summer then that won't end well. Time will tell.

I think you've summed this up very nicely Paul, and we absolutely know that sycophantic promises from both sides will not bring success. I can see it now...fans representative from you know where, and CP rolled out to the tune of "We got our Charlton back" As I said a year ago "From one experiment to another"

Darren Bent out of contract at Derby, maybe getting on a bit, but still has an eye for goal.

Ouch. Benty would have to love us a lot to take a 90% pay cut to come back here.
Even approaching the end of his career I imagine he can earn somewhat more than that playing somewhere else.
