Anyone know about the group? They've raised 7k apparently so what has that been spent on? Shows how confused English fans are when it comes to it If you are confused, this may assist: COALITION AGAINST ROLAND DUCHATELET (CARD) Campaigning Charlton fans came together on Tuesday night to formulate plans to step up protests aimed at forcing the owner Roland Duchatelet to put the club up for sale. Supporters from Anti Roland Demos, Spell It Out and Voice of The Valley, who have all organised protests at recent matches, were joined by representatives of the Charlton Life message board and the Charlton Fans Protest Fund, as well as others. They agreed to work together under the banner of CARD (Coalition Against Roland Duchatelet) and to follow up recent demonstrations against the owner with another major post-match rally in the west stand car park immediately following the Blackburn Rovers home game on January 23rd. However, recognising that further and less predictable initiatives are also required, additional action will also be disclosed on the day of the Blackburn game itself. This will not involve a pre-match demonstration in the car park, but plans are being kept flexible in order to be able to respond to developments, including around the managerial situation. An immediate objective for the group, which is working on a series of short and medium-term actions to impact on the club, is to force significant changes in its senior management. The meeting was also attended by observers from the board of the Charlton Athletic Supporters’ Trust. All present played a full part in discussions at a very productive and consensual meeting. At this stage, CARD simply wants to assure Charlton fans that we are working together to try to bring a swift and positive end to the current crisis at the club.

Sadly I washed my hands with this as soon as I found out that CL were involved but we all know that they just had to be.
I wonder what the ineffective excuse for a protest will be this week?

It needs to be something more telling than the merchandise and food boycott at the last game.
They should arrange to either disrupt the match, or unfurl so many banners the stewards can't cope

you can bet your life that none of it will involve pitching up in belgium en masse. as long as protests are over here they will do fuck all.

If there is a chance that Riga signed up on the condition that KM goes and he picks the squad, and it really is looking that way, then I can see things changing protest wise. We have a coach that is popular with players and fans alike, and I think that if we play and win well on Saturday the bollocks will go out of any protest, mainly due to happy optimistic fans wanting to get home and have a jar to celebrate the turnaround.

Let's look at it from this angle:
- RD hates spending money - The shop and food outlets are outsourced, so they cost him zero to staff - If the companies that hold the franchises are not getting enough custom they will want money back each home match and eventually leave (I believe it's part of the contract) - If they leave, RD will have to employ staff, which will cost him money, which he hates
Money is one of the only languages that RD understands

It's really simple how to get rid of them and not even as if there is only one way to do it.
Protest: Get game abandoned to grab his attention and show fans are serious
Boycott: Complete boycott - Everyone boycott but Bovril fans will still go so boycott lower north and leave out that Roland Out banner over seats so it's a stand with 0 people in it but just a banner, not hard to organise if you spread message and have guys standing in concourse telling everyone what's happening
Would look like in the pics

But what he says is true Cants - in the main, our fans are as soft as shit. Protests every week outside the West Stand - but just look at the number who walk out of the West Stand with their heads down at full time. They really are a complacent and spineless bunch. There would have been serious disorder by now at any other English club that had Meire and Duchatelet infecting it - our fan base is too old, too middle class and well fed, and far too complacent. They literally remind me of the appeasement regime back in the 1930s - there are so many similarities.

Royston, fans do have the right to do what they want - it's not right to call people spineless just because they go home after the game - remember, Newcastle fans have never got rid of Mike Ashley - for me, falling attendances have the biggest impact - Ashley sticks around because of TV money - RD would quit if there was no real business to run

Andy,
Of course Charlton fans have the right to do what they want, but they are ostriches, they have seen what has happened over the last two years and won't do anything to arrest the decline. In the end they will get the club and the team that their apathy deserves - in League One watched by 5000 crowds. That is where it is heading.

As they include ST's wether you turn up or not, and having a few thousand comps will address those not going, so the figures balance out. Be interesting to see the revenue streams for food and drink as well. But a lot of fans are not the dedicated types, and frankly do not visit a web site board, or wish to. There perogative I guess, just be prepared to accept relegation when it comes, but there again a fair few will be off to West-ham, and other things to occupy there Saturday's. As a footnote tried to speak to the new comms manager yesterday, who was 'out of the office', on my visit to the Valley..... and has so far failed to return my phone call from Monday. Obviously being the designer of the trust news the largest CAFC magazine distribution of VOTV, and the matchday programme is not a 'priority'. And as KM kept on bleating communication is such a 'key issue'.Probably KM has not forgiven me about the 'Woolwich meeting' yet!. Obviously the SLP , and the newshopper with there readership of a few hundred fan's are far more important, young Mel?

Falling attendances, falling ST renewals, falling revenue stream did for the Gliksten's but boy did it takes long time back then.
But nowadays business decision making is far more influenced by short term objectives and the financial pressure is the one that is most likely to put pressure on an unwelcome owner.
However, here is the rub. In order to financially pressurise the owner a huge majority of customers gave to refuse to buy STs, match day tickets, food & drink and essentially 'no show' on match days. This is not what most of us do on a Saturday and it goes against the grain of supporting the team on the pitch.
Therefore to drive the owner out we the fans gave to boycott the ground, the team and the club until the owners naff off. A sad and depressing option and too many fans are not prepared to go down this road.

jonkoolWe are getting there, buts is going to be a slow process and a war of attrition. The Club's own figures show that 3,000 of the 10,000 ST holders have stopped attending - that's at least 30% that won't be renewing. Every time another mistake is made or repeated, more fans tip into the protesters camp. The next tipping point will be either relegation, or the forthcoming sale of players this summer. Those still supporting or appeasing the Belgians must realise that the exact same mistakes will be repeated next season - they always are. I doubt Jose Riga is taking out a mortgage on a house in London.

He is the richest owner in our history by some distance, protests don't matter, boycotts don't matter, nothing matters to him. The best we can hope for is that he pops his clogs soon.

That is the depressing reality. Take a personal choice to not fund him or dont and go is the only black and white. Footy focus just opened up with "We'd much rather you are a fan than a customer".

Billboard is nice touch so are the 100 banners, should be kept up the whole game not just 60 seconds though. Maybe don't bottle it when stewards try to steal banners too.
Weird how everyone seems confused as to what to do as if no one has ever had to deal with him before... He sold Standard Liege and think he said is was down to it not worth all the hassle from fans. He destroyed them but they are rebuilding now. Standard Liege warned us about him turning the stadium into a stadium/shopping centre too, its about copying standard and making him see that it's not worth it. Only thing is they have a completely different type of fan base

I did think that this could be the next one. Seemed obvious after the way the last incident was handled. Regardless of wether the woman was hit or not it was poorly dealt with.

I was sat below where it was unfurled and it was absolutely tiny - probably barely legible from where Meire and Murray sit, yet the club decided to make a big deal over it and now it's coming back to bite them.

Correct me if I'm wrong but is today's CARD idea been confirmed as banners?
I appreciate the idea of announcing these ideas late in the day so the club cannot prepare for it but how can people make a banner in two hours!!!

I think the organisation made them and gave them out. Sebs banner has been given back and an apology made, apparently.
