Crying out for a striker and a great opportunity to see if that striker can be a reborn Reza.
He carts him all the way to Bolton and does not give him a kick.
Supported Luzon thus far but doing that to a player is just not on.

Think he has only taken him due to lack of options mate..
Personally don't see a rebourn reza as a decent option if we're going to compete, don't rate him one bit!
Crying out for a new striker if Igor has had it!

But if he doesn't play him then he's not an option so why bother?
It's total arrogance on Luzon's part because Igor is out so all the more reason to give Reza a chance to step up and show us his worth.
We cannot afford to shit on strikers when we are short of them.

Nobody else to fill the bench..
Hence lack of squad depth.. Hence at least four signings needed

But it was a friendly, you don't need to fill the bench, you can have 2, 4 or 7 subs it's down to each club so to cart him up to Bolton on an overnight trip and not play him is not on, do people honestly think Reza will want to stay after that?

Reza didn't want to play for us last summer because of $ signs in middle east and a fairly torrid few months in a relegation scrap on a swamp of a pitch. Today is a completely different picture.
We have 15-18 decent players so Luzon needs to make the most until those who are finished (4?) are shipped out and reinforcements arrive.
I'm not asking him to throw his toys out of the pram in public but he did a blinding job for RD at Liege - at least from a financial perspective so I think he has every right to ask for resources to land the right players.
With Makienok and Watt instead of Church and Tucudean we are far better up front and tonight we created chances. What matters is how many chances we create across August and who can finish them...
Looking forward to QPR now and I'm hoping they're a soft touch, but let's wait and see. Wherever we are end August / end September is 100% down to the board and Luzon. They've been able to release a large number of players who weren't good enough and I hope they have the sense to sign whoever is needed to keep us top half.

Don't think that Reza is the answer but what worries me is the lack of game time that those we assume will be the core of the first team have had. With the exception of tonightI think that the under 21s have had more involvement

Let's not forget, Reza has not had a full pre-season with us and is probably at least three weeks behind every one else!

I get all that so why take him to Bolton if he's not fit?

I get all that so why take him to Bolton if he's not fit? He needs to bond with the team and feel part of the unit if Luzon thinks he'll be involved in the first team this year. I think it's a good idea to make all players feel part of the squad even if they're not going to be used. Reams, in a previous thread you mentioned about team bonding on this final pre season friendly so it makes perfect sense that that was in Luzons mind when taking Reza yesterday

I thought Reza looked great for Iran in the world cup. Think he's got something to offer us and I hope Luzon agrees.

In answer to Reams' rhetorical question 'what is it that Luzon doesn't get?'....I know one thing he is guaranteed to get this season.
His P45.

With Du Chalets as owner there is a fair chance that Luzon will be gone regardless of how well we all think he is doing. Four different managers in his time here already plus countless others at Liege

Supported Luzon thus far but doing that to a player is just not on. Cos nobody at the club rates him (big time Charlie?) So they don't really care if he is about or not. Luzon has Makienok and Watt, Reza ain't a shade on either unless he's playing for a transfer (ie World Cup). In fact most would probably prefer if he was sold so we could reinvest. That's the only reason I would give him time on pitch.,, to get rid.

Another bad run which leaves us in the bottom half around Xmas time and I've got no doubt that Roland will be wielding his axe again.

Four different managers in his time here already plus countless others at Liege Countless appointments? Five appointments have been made to two coaches: Riga then Luzon at our place...Riga, Luzon then Riga again at Liege. We were bottom of the league when Powell went and we were heading back there under Peeters. Having said that I'm not sure I'd put money on Luzon being head coach this time next year. Riga again anybody?! If Luzon does well he will last. If the club is in freefall (again) he gets replaced. I wouldn't have it any other way for in that respect our interests are aligned with the owner. The difference comes when we look at the resources that Luzon has been given to do the job...and that RD will most probably want to sell top talent next summer to pay the bills. We all want the best squad possible but RD wants losses to go down from £6m a year and not up. When the team isn't performing I think he calculates that it's cheaper to replace the coach, not bus in five more players.

If and when Luzon goes the only man he'll be replaced with is Yannick Ferrera.

Is that the guy who picked up the pieces at Liege? I prefer to think that the board and Luzon can agree and land the final targets to make us a competitive side and finish higher than last time.
I want this model to work because it doesn't waste money and, most importantly, it's our club.
Continuous improvement tends to drown out those who whinge and moan every week! Eventually it creates a winning club which will attract better players and bigger gates.

We have already had discussions with our next manager who will take over when Luzon 18 month contract comes to an end ... It's the present boss of the Belgium national side who is close friends with RD ..... Again Luzon only come in because he got 18 months left with the national team .....

Marc Wilmots?? Not sure about that Bexleyboy although I have met him when Standard Liege played Cardiff in the Cup Winners Cup in 1993.
Ferrera is the current manager of Sint Truiden.

Reams you meeting him bares no significance to him coming or not, unless you laid the foundations in 1993?
Bexleyboy, you better call EDF, because you are suffering with a gas leak.
Absolute BS, it's this type of made up rumour that helps to destabilise the club and squad, you are saying that Luzon was picked because Wilmots had 18 months on contract??? I think you need to lay off the super strength beer, and stop confusing real life with dreams you had when you were drunk.

Dip your beak in the Belgium Rothmans Yearbook, and pluck a name out.
In spite of Colin's delusion that Luzon really is the new Rinus Michaels, there is every chance The Stooge will be fired after 5 games if we get off to a bad start.
