Not football related, but surely a subject we can all agree on?
The sickening murder in Zimbabwe of their iconic 13 year old lion "Cecil" by American "big game hunter" Walter Palmer.
Golfer Ian Poulter has just Tweeted some sickening photos of good ol' Walter with some other beautiful creatures he has killed - including a hippo, a bison and a leopard. What did these animals do to deserve such a horrible fate.
Two other facts about the murder of the lion - game keepers are reporting that his six cubs will now inevitably be killed by others male members of his pack, and it is their way of establishing supremacy. And that Palmer initially shot the lion with a cross bow, found him still alive 40 hours later (imagine the pain he was in)...and then beheaded the animal before skinning it. All in the name of pleasure. What goes around comes around, and it is reassuring to see that good ol' Walter Palmer has now had to go into hiding. This is inexcusable.

Absolute scum bag.... Disgusting behaviour.
The guy has killed many of the rarest animals on the planet if you look at his now defunct Facebook images.... This is just the tip of the iceberg.
Obviously not getting any at home so needs to kill animals to express his manliness.
Throw him to the lions.

Jesus Christ Royston, I 100% agree with you for once. This scumbag needs to be arrested and given maximum years.

Yes seen this on facebook an absolute deplorable act.
I hope the bastard suffers and I'll extend that to his family too why shouldn't I, he didn't take into consideration the pain and suffering he would cause to the animal so why should those who will undoubtedly seek revenge care about him.
He is a dentists from Minnesota I believe so I look forward to reading him finding out what a real filling in means.
I can only hope that this cowardly animal killer spends the rest of his days getting fed through a tube until that is they turn the thing off.
What goes around comes around, I hope somebody kills him.

As an American, I fully support extraditing him and letting him face poaching charges.
Disgusting man.

Yep I think we'll have a consensus on this one Royston. Can't think of any mitigating factors at all. Understand that the guy has tried to apologise - too late, only apologising because he has been dug out.

Even in his statement today Walter Palmer refers to the hobby he "loves".
I don't think he gets it.

I see pressure to have him jailed is hotting up in the states, from former speaker of the House of Representatives Newt Gringrich.

Scum, i agree with reams in wishing death on him, but that's after several beatings, and other forms of torture.

I've heard that homeboys in the US correctional facilities get a bit upset about the murder of Africans. He might have a tad of a tough time in there. At least his dentistry skills will come in handy as he pulls his teeth out his own arse.

As sad as this story is, and I totally agree it is the act of a selfish man but I must point out that lion hunting in Zimbabwe is not illegal. The only thing that has made this disgraceful act illegal is that it was unlicensed and the handsome creature was cruelly tempted out of the sanctuary of a game reserve by a scent drag. I too though hope the guy is sent back to the country to face the same charges as his cohorts as I don't believe a word of his excuses.

News has come out that Walter Palmer had previously plead guilty in the US to making false statements related to the killing of a bear. Don't believe a word he says!

If ducks were rare, we'd be saying the same thing...it's all about numbers. Also, the necessity to kill is another issue. How many of us have killed a spider just because we didn't like the look of it. Would it be a disaster if Lions became extinct...no. Would it be a disaster if spiders became extinct...yes. If there were ten lions left on Earth and ten spiders, which one would you value more? Probably the magnificent, handsome big one. ps. I think the guys a prize cnut!

But what do you expect - huntn and shootn is a religion in the vast 'Middle America' and the National Rifle Assiciation is the most powerful lobbying organisation in Washington.
So the only issue is that he chose to kill the biggest beast in the jungle and lured the creature from the animal reserve.
Hunting is a subject that divides opinion and the silver lining here is that it has brought the subject to the world's attention in sharp focus!

Ted Nugent anyone?I personally cannot relate to hunting for sport.....and as Royston said in the original post....wounding the poor creature and then hunting it for 40 hours????wtf????how barbaric is that?

Just don't really understand these people who hunt and kill animals for fun. Can only think its a ego boost to brag to their fellow hunters. Magnificent animal and the world should make them a protective species
